This is GREAT! Always loved Cogsworth. In the newer movie but even more the 1991 animated one. (RIP Mr. Stiers.) I LOVE your writing of Lumiere. The story of how Cogsworth met and married the bar woman from the village was touching. Gaston's father in the bar was a good antagonist. What a jerk! I see where his son got it from. I like the portrayal of Cogsworth's inner angst about his secret feelings for Lumiere. I LOL'ed at the lines: "I haven't ground up any children's bones since I arrived here." and "ever since I was forced into servitude by our wonderful Prince Louis." His deadpan snark is fully appreciated by you, thank you for reminding us of how great the character is.

I love this entire story, and the way you threaded together their backgrounds and their emotions-especially Cogsworth's (and at least for me it's super-rare to see Cogsworth written in a way I like and/or keeps me interested.) Definitely going in my favourites.

So-crates Johnson chapter 1 . 8/1/2017
This was such a believable take on Cogsworth's backstory. The reveal that he had a (not particularly pleasant) wife all along in the movie really threw me for a loop. But I could totally see something like this happening. You did a really nice job of showing that he could be both compassionate and logical. And I love how sweet Lumiere was to him and Beatrice. You can see why they would become friends, even if they don't always agree on things. Was Beatrice supposed to be Mrs. Potts? That was the impression I got, but I wasn't sure.

This was such an interesting take on 2017 Cogsworth! I really enjoyed it! It all makes sense too!

Cogsworth was never a romantic to begin with, but he would have flights of fancy, I'm sure, and you captured that part of him very well in how he would feel from his relationship with Lumière. By the way, that was so adorable of him to bring them food and wine! What a sweetheart! I was smiling the whole time I was reading that. :)

I loved how you explained why they called her Plumette, lol. That was cute!

How Cogsworth met Clothide was honestly really cute too, saving her from those village men's abuse, yet he agreed to marry her because it was the RATIONAL thing to do. Such a Cogsworth way of thinking!
