If it helps any, I've always thought of Derek as "Big Brother Derek" instead of as a dad, because, yeah, they're probably around five to seven years apart, and it would be weird for Derek to act as protective as a father with the weird age differences.
Also, this fic was absolutely wonderful and truly did make me cry. A lot. I commend you, fellow FanFiction-er.

I love these stories where Isaac gets the love, comfort and compassion he so sorely needs. Whenever he cringes away from something or someone in terror it breaks my heart. All he's known for so long is cruelty, and that's all that he expects from anyone. His immediate response to any situation is 'How badly am I going to be beaten this time?' Hopefully, with time and loving support, he can heal (though it will never truly go away) from his many, many wounds, both emotional and physical. He's nothing like his father, he's strong, brave, kind-hearted and loyal. In canon, Derek had to force him to leave, knowing that he would never abandon his Alpha willingly, even if it put his own life in danger. Though I strongly disagree with Derek's cruel methods, I can understand why he did it. That doesn't make it right, of course, it just makes sense from his emotionally disturbed point of view.

Isaac calling Derek 'Dad' (in a loving way) while asleep and Derek's huge smile show how close they've become, how much they've helped each other fight their personal demons. I hope that your version ends up better than in canon.

I live Isaac fics! It makes my heart swell when Derek steps up to take care of the abused teenager he adopted. The show never did a good job at showing us that side of him.
