Reviews for The Lonely Goatherd
EveJo chapter 10 . 8/18
Please please please finish this story
Clare chapter 10 . 6/29
How did I miss these recent 2 chapters until now? Clueless! Anyways I love this story. I'd love to know what is troubling Elsa though and my goodness that 'The last thing we'll be doing is talking.' line from Georg. Swoon! No wonder Maria picked up the key ;) Dying to read on now.

Are you going to update this story? Oh, I miss it so much.
augiesannie chapter 10 . 12/27/2017
"Stop looking at that key!"
Yeah, right, so not going to happen. All that back and forth about getting married and waiting and ... Yeah, right.
That key was a delicious way to symbolize their temptation and the screech of the chair was perfection.
augiesannie chapter 9 . 12/27/2017
Loved this update. That scene in the supply closet? Major swoonage. And I got a laugh out of nearly-undressed Georg.
INeverExplainAnything chapter 10 . 12/18/2017
What an intriguing chapter!

I'm definitely all for them getting married asap. War is just a scary time and I can totally understand Maria wanting to marry him as soon as she can because he may not come back. But then I can understand why Georg wants to do it properly and have all those nameless (hehe) people in a lovely large cathedral.

But yes for Elsa! What a sly devil she is. I love her character so much in this story. I would actually love to read a little mini story or something about her. But anyway, cannot wait to see what happens in the next chapter with the room!

Delicious update.
IDontKnowYourSignal chapter 10 . 12/10/2017
Great update!
Elsa is brilliant (first time I've ever written that in a review, I'm sure...). Love how she's leading Maria and Georg astray.
Maria is barely keeping a lid on her burning need, Georg is pretending his is being kept under control - great that love and desire seems to have won the day!
Brilliant line - "the very last thing we'd be doing would be talking." How dangerously seductive! No wonder Maria's reaching for that key...
Honkytonkangel chapter 10 . 12/8/2017
I'm about to write something I hardly ever get to do on a SOM fanfic review but... YAY for Elsa. I think she totally rocks in this story.
I love how she's so free and brash but also compassionate and caring. She sort of reminds me of an upper class Nancy (though I hope there's no Bill lurking around for her LOL).
Love that she has taken Maria under her wing in a way, but I wonder about her feelings with the mention of the shadow crossing her face, is it just that she wants what Georg and Maria have found or does she have feelings for him. Maybe she's not as fee as we think. I want to know more about her.
Maria and Georg were so cute here. Loved the back and forth when Elsa gave them the key and how Georg was so cool about it while Maria is arguing with herself. I also love that Georg was willing to wait for her if that was what she wanted.
I love the idea of them eloping too though. I hate the thought of something happening and that dream being taken away from them.
LOVED, LOVED, LOVED them both reaching for the key at the end. Can't wait to see whether their hearts or heads win out here.
Mie779 chapter 10 . 12/6/2017

SOM fan chapter 10 . 12/6/2017
Finally, a new chapter! And a good one at that too. Sneaky Elsa:) I like that she's not really the bad person in this story. I'm not a part of the Baroness fan club, but she does deserve some compassion once in a while. Anyway, keep on updating!
bloomandgrow chapter 10 . 12/6/2017
Delighted to see this updated.
I love the arc that Georg has been through thanks to Maria - from being embittered, angry and solitary at the start of the story to a relaxed, happy, even humorous man. Ah the power of love. Gets me every time. (blissful sigh)

It was cute when they were sitting together at the table, holding hands like teenagers and trying to get some privacy by hiding behind menus.
How adorable that he read her letters so often.

For the record, I love Georg's idea of finding the nearest priest to marry them. I don't understand why he wants to wait - it's wartime and there is every possibility of him never returning. Why not go for it, rather than leaving Maria with a lifetime of regrets if she never had a night with him. This is no time to be noble Georg. I would imagine most people thought like that in the midst of war - life was horribly short and too precious to squander on dreams of life in an impossibly long- distant peacetime. She will be his wife in everything but name. Carpe Diem!

Anyway, that's just my thinking. So you can imagine how I squealed with delight about Elsa's gift of the key. I love Elsa in this story, with all her brashness, vulgarity and heart of gold.

How cute that Maria wanted to go to the room to 'talk.' Uh ha, yeah right, tell that to Sister Berthe. I was cheering when she reached for the key. Yay! Delightful.

As for Margarette, please let something good happen to her. I can't bear the thought of what she might have been through. It's too horrible for words.

Love this story.
gothicbutterfly95 chapter 10 . 12/6/2017
Yay. After all the chapters of your other story, it's nice to see something we're our favourite couple is free to be together.
Love them catching up and telling the other they're wonderful and perfect while they themselves are boring. Zeller's plans to get out to sea ASAP are interesting - you're not going to go all 'Emily' on us are you? - but I'm glad they're together for the time being.
Georg insisting that waiting until after the war will mean the wedding will be in Salzburg at Nonnberg with hundreds of people, most of whom he wouldn't know was great.
And then Elsa turned up with the key...
Very nice how they both tried to stick to their morals, but also acknowledged that if they did go up to the room, there was only one thing that was going to happen.
And you even got another little mention of Margaretta in there. Hmmm...
Eager for more, whenever it comes.
