This is a good little story. It shows the softer, caring side of Halt through how much he worries about his apprentice.

I'm going to guess the man did eventually get caught/killed by the Rangers. You don't touch one of them without reprisals from the others.

Wow, so great. I loved this. Now, (maybe you knew this) but "Tiens, mon amie" actually means "Hold this or take this (not in a bad way) my friend (friend being feminine). Ami is the masculine way (I really hate French for all that masculine feminine jumbo). Google translate isn't always correct (if that's what you used). And maybe you really don't care, but it's one of my pet peeves. A more proper way of saying it would be "Allo, mon ami" which can be translated into "hello (or hi, or hey, etc) my friend (masculine because Abelard is a boy horse). But I really loved that you threw that in. Halt isn't the best at speaking Gallican (French) anyway. ;)

You're way too good at writing angst. And apprentice Gilan.
But that poor other apprentice though! I'd always thought about what it'd be like if one of the Ranger's lost an apprentice- it is a dangerous life after all. Or even what an apprentice would do if their master died.

Petty dark and angsty indeed! It was verry suspenseful and I liked your idea on how Halt might respond to a tragedy like that happening to one of the Rangers. It made for a very interesting and insightful kind of character study. Thanks for sharing! I loved it-and I especially loved the end section. You write Gilan and Halt's relationship really well.

Oooh! This is cute! In an angsty way, of course. But still. I like this side of Halt, the one that panicked for his apprentices. I wonder what Halt would do in your other stories hmm? Especially the one where Gilan was captured by Morgarath and is set to do something very stupid and brave? Maybe we'll find out after an update... UPDATE SOON! LOVE YOUR WORK!

Loved it! Very scary what happend to Winster.. I'm so happy that Halt's nightmare was just that: a nightmare!
