You're a good writer and it's a great story you also have great patience!

I have to hope that Harry's perception of Ron Weasley doesn't change cause, he is nothing but bad news, just waiting to be printed. Can you tell that I can't stand him? Sorry, but I didn't like his character in canon or any fan fiction story. He is lazy, a slob, should be fed in a pigs trough, and is very bigoted in his attitudes, likes and dislikes. I'm glad Hermione is going to be challenged in your story, it should interesting to see how you have her reacting to Harry's intelligence in your treatment of them.
Good first chapter, well done. Are you planning to have Harry checked out by Poppy? I only ask because you said Mcgonagall noticed Harry's wince of pain while walking.

Sorting this Harry into Gryffindor makes no sense. Sure wishes can be taken into account, but it is only one factor. Why have a Sorting Hat if it’s purely a self-selection process?

I’m pretty sure a book isn’t going to tell you about dumbledores pensive in his office. Also it doesn’t take really anything to become a animagus it’s more of a incredibly time consuming potion that takes at the very least 2-3 months to make and if you live somewhere where lighting storms are rare years even. You take a mandrake leaf and leave it in your mouth for a whole month never swallow or take it out if you donuts useless. I don’t remover if it being exposed to moonlight or the full moon but one of the two also means you have to start over. After this you need a certain type of dew that’s been fermented for 7 days then crystallized blood from a specific creature and a strand of your hair put all ingredients in a vial. Leave said vial in a dark and damp area till your next thunder storm if the vial turn any color aside from blood red means you have to completely start over if it’s blood red immedseek shelter and consume it. If all goes smoothly you will soon start your animagus transformation. Your animagus form is also always your original Putronus which can only change if you have a love so strong and pure that you would forsake everything for it.

Honestly I don’t think McGonagall would have returned harry to the Dursleys after witnessing Vernons behavior. Also seeing the kid wincing as he walks in pretty sure she wouldn’t have merely dismissed that it goes against her personality. She’s a extremely strict but compassionate person that would have been enraged by the very implications of said wincing.
