That one shot me right through the heart. That was pain, real pain, but I'm still glad I read it all the way through. Several people I grew up with WERE those kits, in exactly those situations. At least one of them is dead now, though not quite in the same way you described...

Congrats on your story, it's by far one of the best i have read, because it have a good foot on the ground and keep things realistic, you make a really good point in the end, it's amazing what you have done with this standalone story! Good luck with the next ones.

Rarely do I find a story that does death well, and this one not only does it well, but takes it head on and masters it. The emotions of the characters are spot on and so very realistic. Nick's inner thoughts throughout it all mirror the reader's own feelings about what is happening, and you nailed his character in how I view him to act in those types of situations. The build-up in the story was flawless and flowed perfectly into the climax, which you also hit a home run with.

I so enjoyed how empathetic Nick was in this, and how understanding Judy is as well. You've managed to capture the best of their characters, and their flaws, all together in a neat chapter long package. Another character I have to say you did excellent work with, was Bogo. The hard talking, no nonsense boss who also cares for his officers, but does so in a way that will still show him as firm and tough. Great work!

Again, I just want to state you did a phenomenal job with this type of story. I rarely read death fics, or angst/sorrow fics, as they are usually average in novelty and the whole experience, but you really did a wonderful job with this story.

PS, that last section was perfectly, spot on, absolutely amazingness captures in that scene. Nothing like a good howl. XD
