This was a really nice little story. Though in my head, I don't think Hiccup is actually younger than Heather. Dagur just refers to Hiccup as "little", because he's physically smaller than himself (as seen in the show before). Regardless, it was nice to see a fanfic where Hiccup, Heather, and Dagur are family.

I'm also very fond of seeing those three as siblings. I'm not that far into the series, so I'm still carrying some hope that Dagur will turn out alive in the end, because seeing him go will be just to heartbreaking. He is capable of such gentleness and care even despite being a wild unstoppable and rather crazy force. Love his character. Love Hiccup. I'm really growing attached to Heather as well. Those three are just perfect as siblings together and I wish to spend more time watching them with each other, happy and safe.

I could see the writer referring to Hiccup as Dagger and Heathers little brother, just because they have so much in common and really if you think about it, when there alone with their own stories, there personalities and backgrounds make it seem like they may have blood families, but by heart their on there own because of strain and differences. But then when you think of A by heart family, family by personalities, similarities, and pure emotion towards each other, Hiccup fits in more with Heather and Dagger than anyone else. Hiccup is an heir, Dagger is A chief, Heathers A loner who can lead, we see this in many episodes. Heather can think quick on her feat, Hiccup's creative, an inventor, and Dagger is crafty.
They even look the same, and in all honesty, Hiccup looks more like A relative to Dagger than Heather does. Same hair and A bunch of other characteristics. Heather even has Valkas exact eye color. The reason i'm saying stuff about looks even though i'm talking about heart is because it does get me thinking about stuff.
Anyways, Hiccup was an outcast, Heather was left adrift, and Dagger was A loner for A long time after the dragon hunters, and didn't really seem to think of his people as, well, people, more of just using them. They all fell in love with there dragons the minute they found them. Dagger and Shadermaster, "The reason I've been gone is because they have Shadder master!" AND "Not like Gronkles aren't the most cool dragons ever" Refers to shaddermaster, he actually saved him if you've seen season 4. Heather and Windshere "She's been protecting me ever since I found her as A baby, it's all she knows how to do'' (I know those weren't the exact words), and we all know about Hiccup and Toothless "I know bud, I wouldn't leave you either" Wile he's drowning he still says this and Toothless seems to obviously feel the same.
I didn't think about this till reading this, so thank you, and your one-shot is short, yet can put A bunch of feels on someone. In all honesty I was surprised wile seeing the title, because I just so happen to use this phrase on A daily basis. You see, I have step siblings, half siblings, A step dad who lives on his own now, A dad who lives on his own now, and everyones in different houses and if I'm talking about them people will ask "Witch dad?" and "Witch siblings?" So I just say my dad not by blood but by heart, or my dad not by heart, by blood. Same when referring to siblings. So reading this was relatable. When my Biological cousing died, I had one by heart. When my biological dad left for A long time, my dad by heart was around. When my bio dads girlfriend who I idol like A mom by heart left, my mom by blood was here. My grandmother by blood died, and I had A grandmother by heart. My granddad by heart died, and my granddad by blood was right there. It all adds up, for one loss by blood, there's someone by heart to help you. When A loved one by heart is no longer around, you have someone by blood to help you thorough.

THAT'S SO CUTE ! I love so much the family relationship between all of three ! It's just so pure and lovely and platonic, I fall so hard and that's fic it's ust perfect !

This was such a bittersweet story. ;u; Despites its size, I love it!
In a strange, completely bizarre way, Dagur truly did turn him, Heather, and Hiccup into siblings somehow, though they don't have the same blood flowing through their veins. When the next season of RttE comes out, I really do hope there will be an entire episode dedicated to this awesome trio.

I've always felt that Hiccup and Heather had a more brother-sister relationship than friendship. Something about the way they interact, the physical closeness they share that is completely platonic, yet meaningful. Now after seeing Season 3 and 4 I get the same sort of feeling between Dagur and Hiccup, though more reluctant on his end. ;)

I almost cried when Dagur died. IT'S JUST SO SAD WHEN HEATHER STARTS TO CRY *sobs*

I'm still in denial that Dagur is really gone. I don't want to accept it! He was one of my favorite characters!
But I agree, Hiccup being seen as their little brother is so sweet! And so was this story :)

While this is nicely done, I do think it does a disservice to Heather for her to be depicted thinking here that she had no reason to hate Dagur. Yes he didn't kill her birth father, but he (or at least his tribe) DID destroy her home and kill her adoptive parents (and repeatedly try to kill her friends). Forgiving him and acknowledging he had changed is one thing, but acting like he was a good person is another.

I was so sad to see Dagur die! His soul is now redeemed though: He proved he had changed and was willing to give his life to protect his sister. And it's good for heather to see that she's not alone- she still has family on the edge.

Guys I'm not entirely sure about this but I sort of have a theory that Heather dies in the series. Because if you think about it, she doesn't show up to fight in the second movie and also in HTTYD2 Fishlegs is obviously into Ruffnut for the movie but the two are together in the series.
