I loved this very much. There's just too many parts that tug at my heartstrings for me to go through them all, but... (crossed out) Thain Peregrin I... Oh, Pip... just the entire thing with Pip growing an old man and still being Pip-lad... I just... I can't.

Interesting story. These are well written letters, the emotions come through in them.

Oh my god.
That was just too cruel. NO. That was actually painful to read, it was so heartbreaking. You've grown so very much as a writer, Mi, because this story was just wonderful and absolutely your very best yet. I really noticed a big jump in your style in "Matilda" but this was just incredible.
The idea of Pippin writing letters to his cousin and casting them out to sea is absolutely wonderful even though it hurts. I love how you highlighted the fact that even though he's the baby of our four hobbits, he's not the baby anymore; he's been forced to grow up too soon in the cruelest way possible. And how you make him suffer! I know most authors wind up having him be a single father and it's a very popular fanon, but somehow it seemed all the more painful in your stories. The idea that he named the baby with a "sensible hobbit-name" just as Diamond would have wanted only to have her die shortly after especially brought tears.
I also loved the "indecipherable inkblots" and "tearstains" throughout, as well as when he crossed out "Thain Peregrin I."
AND THEN AS IF THAT WEREN'T ENOUGH THERE WAS THAT ENDING.
You mostly write fluff I know, although "Matilda" was a bit dark. But this is just a whole new level of pain. Wonderful story, Mi. I really enjoyed it.
