Reviews for Dog Days
GiggleJuice chapter 2 . 1/24/2018
I didn’t know what to expect from a Severus/Petunia fic. This is the first fic I've read and I really enjoyed it. I was sad about lily by with her the relationship wouldn't have been as close as it was. For a split second I thought that lily had turned into a puppy (trust me I've seen fic like it) the dog was my favorite of the two pets but Cat was sweet.
Debs1990 chapter 1 . 10/16/2016
Interesting. I don't think I've ever read a Petunia/Severus story before, but the way you set it up was very believable.

It seems that losing Lily has done wonders for Petunia's character. She is much warmer and a lot more likeable. I like how her mother wants her to be a good girl and find a nice boy to settle down with; kind of like she does in canon, if you can consider Vernon as nice xD.

It seems that her parents relationship is crumbling since they lost Lily. Her father seems to be distancing herself and her mother is clearly not happy.

I like the scenes with Severus and Petunia, but I think a few more scenes of them as they grow up would've developed their blossoming relationship a bit more.

And then there's the adorable Pudgy. Sob. I love how Severus is there to bury him and comfort Petunia.

So I finally finished reading the second part and quite enjoyed it. It was a nice take to see things from Severus's eyes and i loved his cat called "Cat". Also absolutely brilliant part when Snape's cat attacks Sirius and scratches his ***chuckle** well that was hilarious and the little berk (despite how much I love sirius) deserved the cat's claws sinking into him a little
cheers and lovely writing

Oh, this was so sweet! I can’t wait to read Severus’ perspective in chapter 2!

I really like Petunia and Severus together in this story. It’s interesting to see how one change (Lily not being born) altered everything. While this is obviously an AU fic, and thus characters acted differently, their characterizations actually didn’t stray too far from canon. I could still see Petunia and Severus, despite Petunia not hating magic and Severus not being bitter — which, if you think about it, is all Lily’s “fault.” (Not “fault” really, as it’s their problem not hers, but more like she is the root of these character’s hang ups and issues.) Petunia was jealous of Lily, causing her to hate and fear magic; Severus loved Lily, was jealous of James, and hated himself for the role he played in her death, thus becoming angry and bitter. Without Lily, this story simply outlined one possible and likely outcome of these two characters meeting.

I think we all need a dog named Pudgy. He seemed like the perfect companion for Petunia and was the best icebreaker between her and Severus. Pets dying is the worst, though, and I’m glad Severus was there with Petunia, so he could help comfort her.

I don’t have anything bad or negative to say about this story. There were no SPaG errors (at least, none I noticed) and the story flowed well. I thought you did a good job jumping through time and developing both Petunia and Severus’ characters as they grew up.

Overall, this was an excellent story and I can’t wait until I have some more free time, so I can read chapter 2!

Absolutely adorable story and I'm a huge sucker for dogs so a little pup with a name like pudgy just had me smiling
The way you wrote young and poor Severus Snape is also interesting and I think this pairing works so well together without lily to cause them both heartache and jealousy. Great AU.
Arla Logan chapter 2 . 1/9/2016
This was really well written:) It was very tragically realistic.
Blazen chapter 2 . 1/1/2016
A very good story! I like this pairing very much
Anna Fay chapter 1 . 7/8/2015
What an original idea! I loved how you showed us how Petunia became a perfectly different person, and my absolute favourite part was when she first saw Severus and decided not to care about how dirty or poor he might be, when in canon even such things as Harry's messy hair can make her shriek.
It also looked to me like her mother became something like her canon self, wanting her to be a perfect little girl, and that was an interesting twist.

You also handled the death of Lily nicely, I liked how when it actually happened you didn't say much about it and then years later she just thought about how she died with details one only can think of once the shock settled down a bit. Well done!

And Severus became a lot more balanced too, even though they were separated for months at a time! You really took every little detail and turned them upside down, in a very neat way.
Elise chapter 2 . 7/7/2015
Great second part! :)
Elise chapter 1 . 7/7/2015
Yes, very interesting and unique and I really like that idea (well, not of Lilly dying but the rest). :)
Schermionie chapter 2 . 6/26/2015
I enjoyed this, particularly the first chapter that introduced the initial idea, but Severus's chapter is a nice complement to the theme of character redemption through love and companionship, and the mirroring with a dog and a cat strengthens this, as well as highlights the similarities in Petunia's and Severus's circumstances. There's an undercurrent of sadness to this, because... Lily, I think, would have wanted happiness for both of them, but to achieve that she couldn't exist... although she still does, to Petunia and Severus. I found '"I'm going to plant him Lilies next summer" to be a particularly touching line because of this.

In parts the romance is a little too... saccharine, almost? For my personal tastes. But it fits with the happy story and Petunia as a character, and otherwise... I can't exactly articulate it, but I like the way this is written. I particularly liked the subtle ways you indicated problems with Petunia's parents - the scene where Petunia's mother is a bit too snappy at both her daughter and husband, for instance. It's as though Petunia finds healing via her companionship with Pudgy and Serverus - but Petunia's mother attempts to heal via trying to give her daughter a "perfect" life, by giving her the force of attention she would have given to Lily and it... fails. So Petunia moves on forwards to a bright future, and her parents are left behind. I hope they find some way to heal also.

This story is poignant and also an interesting AU that's satisfying on a level of wanting to see bitter characters redeemed. Thanks for sharing.
Forever Wayward chapter 1 . 6/25/2015
An alternative universe! Interesting? Perhaps... But you're right, it was certainly original and fun!

I particularly like the fact that when Petunia didn't have a sister to compete with, she had nothing but good feelings for Sev. It's also always nice to read about young Severus... Good work, keep writing!
