I think canon Harry didn't take the offer for two reasons. 1)Voldemort killed his parents. Whenever I see a story of HP joining Voldemort, the Malfoys, and the rest of the DEs I laugh at the absurdity and die a little inside. 2) adults lie. Yes in canon he trusted adults...sometimes. But if you go with a realistic Harry here then Harry would not trust adults at all. Simply because one refused to help him only a few hours ago.
