I started this at AO3, but found it finished here. Sad ending, but very realistic. I cursed Christine for not throwing the morphine away and then Erik for using them. But great story.

This is as powerful on third reading (I know, I ought to get a life...) as it was on first. Amazing writing, great characterisation, and your description of the withdrawal symptoms look fairly realistic from what else I have read on the topic. I thought that having Christine realise that she was re-living the death of her father was a great insight, and she came across a compassionate, self-aware but also steely, which I thought was a great combination. It made the ending all the more heart-wrenching. I was rooting for the two of them to pull through. You kept me wondering throughout the story whether she loved him and how much. Enough to dwell on the needle being closer to him than any being (does one detect a hint of jealousy?), to want him well and be prepared to look after him, evidently, but not enough to give him her full emotional support. It made the story all the more interesting, and this reader would be delighted to read more from you in the same !verse. What would your Christine do next? I can see her and the Persian becoming friends, after a fashion. Yours curious...

THIS IS REALLY A VERY WELL WRITTEN STORY...BUT PLEASE DONT WRITE SO CLOSE TOGETHER. iT MAKES IT NEAR IMPOSSIBLE TO READ . A HUGE PARAGRAPH WITH LINE AFTER ANOTHERLINE MAKES IT DIFFICULT TO FIND YOURF WAY THROUGH AEAND GO BACK AND FIND THE B EGINNING OF PERSONAL NOTE, i THINK eRIC WOULD HAVE BEATEN IT IF CHRISTINE HAD NOT FALLEN AASLEEP. BUT SHE IS ONLY ONE NEXT. iNDENT AT THE STAART OFNEW PARAAGRAPHS.

O no, Erik gave up, but that was to be expected. He would need the help of a doctor to survive withdrawal, I guess.
