Wow, this is about the most canon-compliant fic of this type that I've seen yet. As much as we all prefer to think otherwise and want Toothless to be capable of feeling remorse at his actions in killing Stoick and nearly killing Hiccup, in the scene in question it is clear Toothless has no understanding of what he has done after the attack, and his base emotions in this fit with the narrative of 'pet level intelligence' created by httyd 2 (dragons controlled by dog commands, mental susceptibility to outside control, mannerisms of the dragons). Regardless of how I feel about this portrayal of the dragons, you nailed it with this fic.

I really like the emotions in this story; not just those but the intensity of them as well. You did a good job of allowing the characters to react to each other in a way that seems both plausible and realistic. Nice one-shot.
