You definitely had good ideas in terms of the plot and the story included unique aspects that had a lot of potential. What could have been better is the way you told the story. It makes it more interesting to the reader if you don't make everything so obvious. Also, to me a lot of the time the dialogue didn't feel natural. Like there was one line where one of the twins talked about Alan 'taking the kids that frequent the rec centre under your wing.' Realistically, a 16 year old wouldn't say that, especially given that he'd just been in a landslide.
One thing I liked was the trusting relationship between John and Alan - that was nice. But there wasn't much detail on the rest of the family and their feelings about the lost Tracy. It would have been interesting to see if Scott had made any connection between Alan Doe and his missing brother when he first met him too.
ANYWAY I'm getting carried away... I don't mean to be discouraging; hopefully this was constructive? Like I said you have great ideas, but its worth bearing some of these points in mind to enhance the story.

loving the twins right now!
Regality chapter 1 . 5/1/2015
if Alan knows that they paid for him why does he think of them as his parents any more than the foster parents? he even said that he knows his 'mother' wanted to raise a baby more than a small child, so he HAS to realise that they aren't his biological parents-but then why does he believe the car accident story?

Too much telling, not enough showing. Real eleven year old boys don't give lectures. They converse in spits and spurts.

What an amazing story with a happy and emotional ending! When Alan was saying goodbye to his foster family - well-written story telling- brought tears to my eyes.
