wow, i don't believe that i've ever read this! it was amazing and emotional and suspenseful. i had tears in my eyes for a lot of this, the rest of the time i spent laughing. at least the angst was counteracted with some great humor. i found this wonderful treasure in my excavation of dusty archives! \o/

the sequels (kyoto arc) have already been released but hopefully they won't be the last ones as i'm counting on big box office numbers again to motivate them to film more... :) ... you can see the all three online at a place called: gooddrama (you can google - gooddrama rurouni kenshin - although i'm not sure it's available in every country) the three movies will be listed: Rurouni Kenshin (2012) or Rurouni Kenshin: Kyoto Inferno (Movie) or Rurouni Kenshin: The Legend Ends (Movie) -they can be watched in any one of the three or four screens on the page in seven or eight parts (different people uploaded each and i usually watch the first on any anime/video site like that *shrugs*) and make sure you have adblocker and run a scan with maleware bytes after any site like that to get rid of any spyware... you can get ghostery as an add-on if you use firefox to stop trackers (i may be extra cautious but it pays to be). i know it's a lot of trouble but i really trust doing all that rather than downloading from bittorrent or something like it. but you can also get the dvds from places like cd-japan or amazon... i will be waiting to see if they will be making anymore before i buy them all in a box set. ;)

I really enjoy your story. It is a lot of fun while still managing to have a plot and some depth. You said in the beginning that this story wouldn't have a large overall plot... Well I would say it does :).
If this were an original story this is probably where the comment would stop :). But since its not... As great as this story is and as round as your characters are, they have very little to do with the original. Ok, Sano fits. Misao and Aoshi too. But Kaoru and more importantly Kenshin?
The problem with Kaoru: You lost her energetic hiding. In the beginning its still sort of there, but over the story she loses it more and more. She is a normal person in your story, Kaoru Kamia never was. Now don't call me a Kaoru fan, because onhestly I don't really like her :), but in Anime and Manga though not physically she has a mental strength. Yes she is selfish and childish, but she is also loyal. She would never abandon anyone, especially not Kenshin. Now of course this problem only occurs because of the Kenshin you created.
Don't misunderstand, its a good, round realistic character, but it simply is not Kenshin. At least not the Kenshin that meets Kaoru. Yes, perhapsed the Kenshin shortly after Tomoes death would be a bit closer, but even than. Your Kenshin is a lost puppy hiding in a wolfs skin, hoping for its protection. Himura Kenshin is a Lion choosing to wear a kitties skin. I don't mean just physically but more importantly mentally. Yes, Himura Kenshin has many problems, but he is not weak or selfish (most of the time :) ), he is not unrealistic or scared of a person (yes of situations and such, but never directly of a person). Even at the end of the manga, when Kaoru is gone he nver lashes out. e collapses he is defeated, yes. But he doesn't lash out at the world. You took all of the strength and only left the weakness, the fear and the lonelyness.
Now as I said if the characters names weren't Kenshin and Kaoru, this would be an amazing story, but even in an AU most authors try to keep their characters the same as the original, at least in assence.

I don't know why I keep doing this to myself, reading all 36 chapters when I know the inevitable is that the story isn't totally completed & probably never will be. lol. Ahh I'm a masochist that way I guess. XD

anywho, I just wanted to comment that I've been coming back to this story for years now-it feels so odd to say that. time flies huh?- And I noticed that now that I'm a college student reading this, I actually notice & understand certain things and references much better. Its so weird & awesome. D but anywho, I doubt you'll ever see this but I just wanted to share that. lol.3

This whole story was... intense. Haha. I remember when I first read it several years ago, and added it to my favorite's list, without having fully read everything. You put a new meaning to the saying "write what you know" and making the story herald its environment in at the U of M just made everything more realistic, to say the very least. I loved the portrayal of Kenshin-though it was completely different than other fic I have read so far-but nonetheless it was very intimidating to see a life like his; so much loss, so much growth, but also so much gained.

I was really bummed at first with the development of a relationship between Kaoru and Kenshin, but if you consider it as time consuming as it is in the series, I'd say you did a hell of a job capturing that in a presentday situation. It built a strong foundation of trust, loss, growth, and experimentation between the two, and gave deeper insight into the Kenshin you created.

As for the jumping of one scene to another, and change from one time to another, it did not bother me at all-in fact it was a welcomed change in the flow of the story. If you think about it, it's through first person point of view, and easily achievable to see one point get across and then have a shift in time. We are not static in our thought processes as humans-we are eradict, dynamic, going from one image to another, one experience from yesterday one second to remembering when we were small kids playing tag. That is what brought individuality to your story. It pretty much gave Kenshin a soul, and I could imagine things as he were telling them. I know this is one of my favorite fics, and though painstakingly long, was an ever enjoyable thing to reread it years later. If you continue to write another chapter or not, I can fairly say the last updated chapter would still be a good ending. ) Thanks for your remarkable time, I can tell you were dedicated to this story.

LOVED IT! You did a good job with the writing, and the idea is marvelous! One problem I had was the transitions, one paragraph or line ending and then all of a sudden jumping to a new time/place/scene with out any marking to tell us that was a bit confusing. I hope you finish the story, even though its been years...good luck!

Ah, young love... this is one amazing fic. Nice and angst-ridden, lots of Kenshin torture, and well balanced between romance and action. I hope you get around to updating- six years is a while. I hope you havent died...

Wow...I'm not sure what to think about this story. Undoubtedly, it's written very well, but there are so many like, er, gay undertones and Kenshin is so very different from canon Kenshin. Well. I don't really care about the gay undertones except that, well, I kind of want some form of manliness? Just a little bit? Is that too much to ask? Also I've never read a RK fic with gay undertones x) Anyway, other than that I think the Kamatari is hilarious and I wish I knew someone like him.

Actually, I did the mistake that Kaoru made Random Omake: #2... The result was that the microwave started smoking, and was broken. A new one had to be bought.
