The-Older-Account-2012 chapter 1 . 9/8/2014 You know, I really should've have found this a lot sooner, it's really good! A few grammar mistakes are my only criticism, I would normally request for a sequel to this but I was laughing on the inside, and it wouldn't be possible for another one as Beth will not ever try anything again. |
Gideoncrawle chapter 1 . 7/19/2014 An entertaining comic fluff on the whole, but you need to watch some of your wording errors, e.g. “loose” when you meant “lose”. A spell checker won’t catch these, and even a grammar checker might not; and it sometimes seems that autocorrect is as likely to cause errors of this type as to prevent them. The line, “…it’s because the girls at my school want to derive people from thinking they’re sluts” is baffling, because “derive” is clearly the wrong word but I’m not sure what you were going for. On to the plot… If all the girls want to open lemonade stands just so everyone won’t think they’re sluts, I’m not sure I want to know too much about the social climate at that school. Whatever. Sierra’s position with the school newspaper is a logical AU counterpart to her canonical superblogger status. #1: Technical note: A proper lemonade has piles of carbs, because sugars are carbs. (Sugars are simple carbohydrates, as opposed to the more filling complex carbohydrates that you’d find in foods like whole grains.) If you look at nutritional labeling, you’ll see that sugars are included in the Total Carbohydrates, in addition to having their own line. A lemonade with no carbs (sugars) or artificial sweeteners (which have their own set of drawbacks) would be pretty much undrinkable to most people. #2: It does take a certain amount of self control to peddle comestibles, because there’s always the temptation to eat/drink up all the profits. Beth is selling herself short on another matter, though. For all her shortcomings (and there are more than a few) she’s never struck me as particularly ditzy. Lindsay, on the other hand… Oh, well, if canon Lindsay can’t recognize her boyfriend, it’s hardly a stretch for AU Lindsay to not recognize a buddy. #3: Poor Beth, left to ponder what might have been. Eh, Justin flusters girls on the show, so it’s only logical that he’d do so here. To make matters worse, his reaction to the accident suggests that his intentions were probably honorable. If he was planning to love her and leave her (a realistic possibility, if most of the girls at Beth’s school are regarded as sluts) then he might have played through the pain, as it were. Justin’s offer to “help” Beth reminds me of a practice in Victorian England. Certain noblewomen would—for a fee—arrange to be seen in public with a common woman accused of certain improprieties, thereby “proving” that the allegations were nothing but malicious gossip. #4: How did Heather and Courtney get so many customers so quickly? If I had to guess, I’d say it’s because they’re both pretty and a lot of the customers are probably boys looking to hit on them, especially if the girls are generally regarded as sluts. Sex sells, whether it’s cars or lemonade. The threat of legal action was clearly idle, since there’d be no rational basis for it, but Heather quite reasonably surmised that Beth wouldn’t know that. #5: It would have made more sense to say that Beth’s stand was on Chris’ property, instead of being within a certain distance, since Chris’ house presumably doesn’t sit on a circular lot and he can't enforce policies beyond his property line. The road is probably the property line, so Courtney and Heather’s stand wouldn’t be trespassing because it’s on the far side of the road. The thing, is, though—and this was the only OOC bit I noticed—I just can’t see Chris engaging in manual labor, even something as simple as moving Beth’s stand. He’d probably have sent Chef and some other hireling, perhaps one of the canonical interns. And no, being a nerd isn’t so bad, although I wouldn’t call Ezekiel a nerd. |
Pepe's Red-Eyed Cousin chapter 1 . 6/27/2014 Couldn't stop laughing. Poor Beth. That's a lot to live down for one day. At least she has learned that there was no point in trying to be popular. Keep up the good work. |
