dondena chapter 1 . 1/13/2017 I would have loved Randy's cupcakes. |
a-MAXiMINalist chapter 1 . 11/9/2014 There's a heavy layer of roommate conflict with the temperature control and the characters feel like the other roommate is overplaying or exaggerating their troubles because it comes another stressful thing in a already bad night. All they want is mutual sympathy, but even that's not enough, as they seem unable to reach an empathic understanding. Even Mike is somewhat conscious of his lack of empathy being that he nearly laughs at Randy's woes. And then he realizes that any answer he gives to Randy will be in Randy's terms and judgment. It's bad enough that they're looking to each other for solace. Mike is so unfamiliar with friendships that all he can convince himself is that Randy's grudging apology is all in the service of friendship. |
roots are good chapter 1 . 6/1/2014 Nice story! Your grammar and spelling seemed perfect for the most part, and I think both Randall and Mike were in character. I feel like this story is mostly foreshadowing for events in the future that break up their friendship even more. I wish I could find out what Randy's really mad about. Overall, awesome job. Keep on writing! |
Cytisinth chapter 1 . 5/12/2014 First, I should check my other e-mail account more often. I missed this fanfic earlier. Thank you so much for the dedication - no one ever dedicated any creative endeavor to me before. You've answered the question of how Randall would interpret the aftermath of Sulley's break-in very well. At this stage in his...development, no doubt he would use the incident as a springboard to a disagreement with Mike. I like how Mike tries to rationalize the hardship of his cohabiting with Randall. (They both like following instructions, so that's positive, right? Surely the apparent convenience is more important than friendship!) Simultaneously getting angry with someone for doing two contradictory things sounds like a reaction Randall would have, actually. He is simply not a reasonable monster. The way you depict Mike and Randall's relationship is refreshing and emphasizes the genuine friendship/superficial "friendship" theme of MU. "So this was proof that Randy did care about him, right? That much was obvious." Poor, poor Mike. |
Julia451 chapter 1 . 5/12/2014 Oh, no, no, no, no... never mess with us bookworms' books - the results are not pretty! You captured a great aspect of the contrast between Mike and Randall here and how it affects their relationship: how Mike wants to be successful and doesn't care what anyone thinks of him, and how Randall wants to be popular. He'd resent Mike not only because he doesn't want to associate with the unpopular crowd or - WORSE! - know that one of them feels sorry for HIM, but because Mike's approach to problems would make him feel guilty. If Mike had succumbed to the need to fit in and "gone to the party," it would have made Randall feel safer around him, but the fact that Mike remains above petty stuff like that at this point makes him feel threatened. Mike also being sorry he wrecked something Randall created and not his chances to fit in was also an excellent touch - very Objectivist, which I couldn't help seeing in this film. |
Guest chapter 1 . 5/10/2014 Title totally makes sense! Keep it up :) |
Deutschland chapter 1 . 5/10/2014 This was the best! I always wondered what Randy would do if he found the room in caos. You did an admirable job - I think it could even of been added to the movie •_• |
GrowlytheGrowl chapter 1 . 5/10/2014 I think this is a good one-shot. I'm always looked up for a story that explained not-in-the-scene situation in the movie. I enjoyed it :) |
