Really love this insight into John. He came off less sympathetic in the main story, but here we see how he feels he has no choice. I love when we get to see someone's POV and discover they are more sympathetic than we thought. They may not be right, but we understand them and can feel more for them.

To me, John is often made out to be much more of a monster than he is. Canonically, he's not winning any "father of the year" awards or anything, but I think he has a lot more heart than people give him credit for. That being said, I love this John. I mean, he's much darker than most characterizations I read, but it satisfies me in a way I didn't know I needed. That scene in the original fic where John can barely keep himself upright after he finds out "Luke" is Sam hit me hard and it's the closest I came to crying throughout the story. Also, this time stamp made me realize that "Luke" being the same age as Sam really did have a huge effect on John, one you didn't really get to see in the original fic. So I seriously love this entire series and it has made me feel so much through the powerful writing. Thanks for the stories! They break me but heal at the same time and are a wonderful addition to the fanfic community!

Perfect characterization. John wasn't overtly, psychotically abusive yet he wasn't kind either. He was on a mission, even in his head. And though he's still a total dick, John was constantly thinking about wife. It's sweet, in a twisted way.
