I love seeing Arthur taking care of Merlin.

Nice job! This story was tugging at my heartstrings the whole time I was reading this. Especially the part where Merlin told Arthur that he knew he would find him since he's never failed him before.
And I loved when Arthur told him that if he ever made him have to do that again, he would kill him. Twice. And he didn't care that that didn't make any sense. XD

That was a great lil story :) Keep up the fantastic work :)

that's a sad thought arthur has - when we find you morgana you had best live a life worthy of the lives that have been given for you... when we all know she did exactly the opposite... :(

Wow, I love what you're doing with Arthur here! Just the right amount of introspection. I think his thoughts thus far are insightful and true to Arthur's character. Bravo!

I enjoyed this. Your paragraphs are beautifully written, full of evocative description, and you're very good at creating atmosphere and mood. I like that you've taken the title and chapter headings from a poem.

Arthur's self doubt and fear in the previous chapters is beautifully expressed, exposing the regret of a King who has to lead his men to death and the burden it imposes. And , oh, the irony and sadness behind Arthur's plea that Morgana lives a life worthy of the cost of finding her...breathtaking. Then the ending and the faith that is shown; at this point words actually fail me and all l can do is applaud a beatuifully written, moving and emotive story.

Outstanding first line...one of the best l have read. And the rest of the chapter does not disapoint...stunning beginning.

Wonderful ending! I loved the poetic segue between chapter titles. 'In this vast night' catches the despair in many facets of Arthur's life. His feeling towards Morgana and the cost of Uther's mad persistence really come through. It led into the the hope springing from the next line, 'to the rushing waters', and Arthur's action to save Merlin. I relished the image of Arthur holding Merlin while he starts to breathe again, while he also threatens to kill him twice.
You did a great job with this story! The elements of the poem brought a lot of strength to the narrative. One of my favorite Rilke poems! Thank you! Thank you dear friend!
