I wrote this 12 years ago and have had it sitting on my computer since. It is set after the 4th book, before the events that follow after. It's a short one off piece from Elspeth as she considers Rushton and their future.

[AU] Elspeth Gordie is an odd girl. And Maruman is an odd cat. Jes figures he must be odd too, to have dragged the pair of them along with him when he could have had a decent life instead.

Set 20 years after the Red Queen. Elspeth and Rushton's daughter Cassy has never known anywhere but Eden, and she yearns to explore beyond the sheltered valley. The arrival of Sebastien, son of Analivia and Swallow, may provide her with the opportunity to do just that.

"My heart hammered in my chest as I turned to look at him again... "What do you mean?" I stuttered, my mouth dry as papyrus as his fingers moved gently from my cheek to my lips." Set in the Red Queen, in the Beforetime City. Elspeth and Dameon are trapped in a small, confined space and certain revelations come about of their own accord.

"Dameon... I have something to impart to you... knowledge of a type that will be both a blessing and a curse... Do you know of what I speak?" The Overguardian passes on some cryptic thoughts and insight into Dameon's destiny in his last hours before dying.

Dameon/Elspeth. On the journey across the unknown blacklands (The Sending), Dameon struggles with his suppressed feelings for Elspeth, and seeks her comfort.

After everything she has been through, Elspeth has finally made it; the end of her quest, the weaponmachines. But she is not the only one there. It is time to confront the Destroyer.

Rushton experiences a strange series of dreams; Elspeth keeps leaving and there is nothing he can do. A little too much truth for Elspeth's liking.

What happens the day that Domick visits Mika at work, and it all falls apart...

Rushton returns to Obernewtyn and to Elspeth after being tortured in Ariel's compound, but his experiences have left him bitter, abusive and cruel. Deeply ashamed of her inability to save Rushton and their relationship, she avoids Master Empath Dameon lest he uncover her secret. But Dameon has a secret of his own. Oneshot.

Elspeth is finally meeting the Destroyer, but she would never have guessed who it turned out to be.

A numb self-sacrifice of the weakest? No. An alternate course of events for the last quarter of Obernewtyn, for the purpose of giving some characters I like a nicer fate. Some violence.

A man mysteriously wants to appeal to the misfits at Obernewtyn. Who is this man? And who is he to Elspeth?
