Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I love helping people learn to write better, as long as they're willing to listen. If you think that your writing's perfect and you aren't willing to change it, then what are you doing at my Beta page? Away with you! *shoos away the arrogant people* I wouldn't say I'm tactless, but I'm going to be blunt with you. I give honest feedback, and don't just tell you that it's good. I'm willing to look over a story for grammar, spelling, and sentence structuring even if I don't particularly find it compelling. I'll talk much more about plot and character development if the story gets my attention. Which shouldn't be too hard. SQUIRREL! What are my expectations? Hmm... Probably that you'll listen, and actually change the writing yourself. If I write for you, you won't learn. I expect that the characters will be fairly canon (If, for example, you create a very whiny Aragorn, you'd better give me a good reason. If Seven of Nine starts walking around, acting super cheerful, I need a reason). Yeah... That's about it. Also, if you send me a PM asking me to Beta for you, I really appreciate it if you make it less text-talk and more actual sentences. My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I am a spelling whiz and walking Thesaurus. However, I think my main strength is dialogue and adding humor. I enjoy making characters come alive. I can also help with creating more engaging sentence structures, and adding meat to a weaker story idea. I enjoy helping people, if that counts as a strength. I'm on the computer a lot, so I could possibly check your story over once a day. I'm a singer-songwriter, so I can help out with SongFics and writing parodies. I don't know if this counts, but I have a lot of experience writing gory scenes/torture situations. I am also a martial artist if you need help with fight choreography. I play chess very well, so if you need a game of that in your story, I could come up with the moves. I have experience in a recording studio and in acting, so if you want to know what that's really like, I can help. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I play hard and loose with the rules of grammar. I use fragments a lot, out of design. Sometimes, I find that they help improve a story's flow. I have a short attention span, so unless you really get me interested, I won't be able to give as much feedback. I also do not usually use much of a plot when I write, so I can't help much with the finer points of plotting a story out (It is my belief that plots are almost completely unnecessary). |
Preferred: types of stories I prefer over others
I love Minecraft stories, X-Men, LOTR, Star Trek, and Harry Potter stories especially. If a story has a particularly original plot, that's good. I enjoy humor and romance stories. I'd be willing to Beta for really anything, as long as the Fandom is not too complicated or you'd give me a fairly comprehensive crash course. If your characters are engaging, that's also good. |
Would Rather Not: I do not beta for these stories
I don't write plain smut/lemon, and I'd rather not read anything too... umm... explicit. Also, I don't read stories with an expressly religious message. A little religion is okay, but if the whole point of the story is to be about how religion is superior to non-religion, or something like that, I won't Beta for it. Also, I don't like stories that have huge blocks of text. That's pretty much it. I'll check it out, and see what I think. |
