Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I am not a writer. I am an artist of the imagination. I tend to point out every little typo and grammar mistake, but feel free to tell me if you want it to be that way. I do not have experience in many areas, but I will try my best if what you write is not what I tend to read. I will not beta read for anyone who insults or puts down my faith. Period. No exceptions. I am proud of being a /br / I respond quickly, will happily leave comments on your work, but if you ask me to, I can be painfully honest. If you want an honest assessment of your skill, I can give you that. I am not cruel or undeserving in my assessments though! I will be fair and nothing is even wholly bad! It's usually one fixable mistake that can change my entire opinion of a fic. Occasionally I run into things that just can't be taught. There are writing things that you just gain from experience and discovering your flavor as a writer. You can't teach those things, but you know when they're missing. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
Spelling/grammar especially. Keeping characters in-character, adding in those little mannerisms and speaking patterns that makes them unique. Relationship dynamics, especially sibling and romantic relationships. I enjoy close bonds, characters overcoming a difficult past, families, and young children. I will write for other ships besides mine, even if I disagree with them. I may choose to decline if I don't think I could beta unbiased, |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I can't beta anime/manga, most movies, or video games. Mainly because I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing. And no, you will not be able to convince me to watch/play/read one of those. I just don't prefer them. Most contemporary TV shows I don't do, because I don't watch them. I am inexperienced in a lot of areas, but I will learn, should I want to. I'm not great at OCs, just since they're your characters and you've designed them to have a certain flavour that I don't want to mess up |
Preferred: types of stories I prefer over others
I can beta just about everything. Family, drama, romance, adventure, thriller, slice of life, anything. I enjoy torturing characters, but I have some weird limits regarding that and it depends on my mood. Right now, I'm writing family, comedy, slice-of-life, adventure, drama, and healing stories. Would Rather Not: I do not beta for these stories
I will not beta read ANYTHING that has sexual content, nor anything with slash. (If you're not sure on the boundary, just send it anyway and if it's too much I'll let you know. Generally, if clothes are coming off, no.) I'm not going to apologize for that. Innuendos make me uncomfortable, but I'm okay as long as there are few of them and they are between married couples only. Male/female married couples. Anything LGBTQ in it, don't even ask me. Go find someone else. |
