Tips from an unprofessional nonprofessional:

Don't use POV specifications or author's notes in the middle of your story.

If you use a lot of semicolons, stop. Chances are you're wrong.
Get a copy of "Elements of Style" by Strunk & White and memorize it. I'm serious. You'll thank me.
Write every damn day.
Read every damn day.
Remember the three W's: Who are these characters, What challenges do they face, and Why should we care?
Anyone can write. Writers rewrite.

Anything you write, good or not, is progress.
You have to love it.

A Different Path by Ulfserkr909 (Zootopia) - Read it for the novelty. The writing isn't perfect and there are way too many unnecessary sex scenes, but this is far and away the most creative premise for a Zootopia fanfic I've found and I had a good time while it lasted.
