Author has written 1 story for Person of Interest. I've been a fan and close watcher of Person of Interest since the pilot. I am a serious movie buff, and Thin Red Line, Count of Monte Cristo, and Frequency are all in my (admittedly long) list of favorite films, which means I have been a fan of Jim Caviezel since early in his career. I was also a fan (though often baffled) of Lost, and particularly admired Michael Emerson's nuanced work in that series. So the combination of lead actors in POI is what drew me to watch the pilot. I have always, in my reading and viewing, been drawn to stories of damaged heroes struggling to overcome their dark pasts, wounded heroes seeking redemption. I’m particularly drawn to deep friendship between men (usually men)—bonds of friendship forged in fire, and so strong that we know each would give his life for the other without a second thought. And I am, as well, deeply interested in science fiction that explores what it means to be human--in particular the permeable boundary between a person and an android (thinking here of Data, on STNG). And I am a rigorous critic of bad or predictable writing. So: Actors I admired, wounded heroes, deep bonds of friendship, an emerging sentient Machine, and beautifully written scripts with great dialogue and subtlety—and snarky humor, which I adore. It seemed to me that POI was written and filmed just for me, exactly at the intersection of my personal interests! Creating profile on fanfiction.net marks my first foray into fan fiction, and indeed my first experience of fandom in general. I am older than most of you (I feel confident saying). To have discovered this vast, previously unknown world at this point in my life has been a genuine revelation. In the Person of Interest fandom, it has been particularly shocking to discover that my (private) obsessions with Wounded Heroes and Platonic (or are they?) Male Friendships, turn out to be shared by so many other fans! It has always seemed to me that POI was created specifically for ME, to satisfy my own secret passions. Turns out it satisfies a lot of us. My passion for the show grew exponentially at the end of episode 110, and I've been obsessed, ever since, with imagining the rest of that scene at the beginning of episode 111. I'm not sure I will ever be inspired to write more fan fiction, but I felt compelled to write this one. I'll post it, and then I guess we will see if anything else comes along. |
