Author has written 2 stories for Dragon Ball Z, and Yu-Gi-Oh. Hello, new user here. I'm DemonMamoru. My fandoms are: Dragonball Z, Black Butler, Attack on Titan/Shingeki no Kyojin, Pokemon Mystery Dungeon 2, Stagate SG-1, Star Trek (new movies), Lord of the Rings/Hobbit, Yu-Gi-Oh! (original series), Yuyu Hakusho, Hellsing, D.Gray-Man, Soul Eater, Blue Exorcist/Ao no Exorcist, TMNT (old live action movies, 2003, 2007, 2012 and 2014), Transformers (animated, Prime, Bay verse, and MTMTE), Diabolik Lovers, Angelic Layer (haven't finished it yet), Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicles, Black Butler, Dangan Ronpa, InuYasha, Supernatural, Dr. Who, Sherlock BBC and the R.B.D.Jr ones, and I'm going to start Darker Than Black soon. (And I'm sure I'm also forgetting about some fandoms I love, so if you ask me about it, I might know.) I'm in college, and English is one of my better subjects. One of the things I've noticed in fan fiction is that a lot of Original Characters are either Mary Sues or Gary Stues. This is caused by (usually) one thing: having an OC (original character) that is vastly more powerful than canon characters, leaving no room for the OC to develop, and character development is what makes a story. Having an OC that is either too powerful (over-powered) or oppositely, too under-powered, causes the same thing, no character development. OC's should have plenty of room to grow, and if you are giving them powers, depending on the universe, give them weaknesses to balance them out. If at some point you want them to be over-powered, that's fine, so long as you make them grow INTO being OP. Make your character suffer, train, or go through some events that test your character, this will both develop them and can be used in a plot line to give them a new power or to make them stronger. But don't forget to balance them, typically a weakness could be added. (For instance, I have an overpowered vampire OC, but she's also extremely vulnerable to holy water, blessed weapons, blessed/holy silver, and needs blood every 2-4 days otherwise her power lowers significantly, and I've put her through HELL to get as strong as she is.) Other ways to balance an OC could be whiplash for using their powers, but keep in mind, it must be significant enough to actually affect them. (So don't have a psychic mind reader who just gets a mild headache for an hour after using it. If they had a severe migraine for 2-3 three days, that could be a good balance, because there's a consequence of using their power.) That said, I'm not always the best at making OC's, but I'm good enough to have them develop so they aren't over-powered right off the bat, and are somewhat interesting to read. (So I've been told by people who normally don't like OC's.) If you need help with an OC, feel free to PM me, and I'll do my best to help you, but also note that I will be starting college soon, I have martial arts, and work. It can take me a while to respond, so be prepared for that. If my response is something you don't like, that's fine, people don't always agree. (But if you do go off on a rant about how I'm wrong, and start cussing or type with the skills of an 11 year old commenting on Sonic pictures on DeviantArt, I will block your immature ass.) I honestly believe that just about any fan fiction can be good, if done right. (meaning good plot, good character interaction, good spelling and grammar and punctuation) If you want my opinion on something, let me know. If I leave a review, I'll be positive, while maybe pointing out a spelling error that you missed, not to be mean, but to just let you know that it's there so that you can correct it I don't mind helping people better their characters, stories, and writing skills, and if you want some help, let me know, and I'll do my best. Just be patient with me because I DO have a life outside of the internet. So I'll be posting more on a different site, so if a chapter has something that doesn't like, I'll have posted it else where, and leave a link to it, that way people may read it. If a chapter needs a warning, I'll put it in the beginning so that you are warned and there's no surprises. So, some info about me: I'm an Aries. My favorite color is bright red. Soda is my bane. But I love sweet tea. I know a bit about genetics, so if my story involves science stuff, I'll be as accurate as I can. I love the show Transformers: Prime. It's my favorite incarnation of transformers. I'm in martial arts, and I'm a fighter, and a feminsist. My favorite food is steak. I love cats and dogs. (Both are good.) And I'll do my best to update, but this site utterly confounds me, so I foresee problems with this site. xD |
