While talking to Will in the shed, trying to break through the Mind Flayer's control, Mike starts thinking about what he would do if Will gave up, and completely unintentionally blurts, "I love you." Mike's existential crisis follows. Meanwhile, Will uses the words as his anchor, holding onto this glimmer of hope with all his might as he struggles to hang on against the Mind Flayer

When Will accidentally hands Mike a personal sketchbook instead of a school notebook, he may as well have just handed Mike a full confession. Will realizes just a tad too late. Mortified, ashamed, Will flees to Castle Byers. Mike follows. (It's a sweet coming-out story with a happy ending, yo. Because Will Byers deserves a good day, okay?)

When El steps through the door of the Byer's house, it's like a freight train has been lifted from Mike's chest. And El - El feels like she came home. It's been a long and trying eleven months, and with the wait finally over, Mike and Eleven pick up where they left off. Alternating POVs from the moment Mike and Eleven reunite onward. Little bits of angst and grit but mostly happy.

She quickly attaches herself to Peeta, Beetee's apprentice, and he can't help but to feel drawn to her too.

The Capitol never hijacked Peeta. Instead, they warped his identity in a different way: they made his body female, so that he wouldn't be recognized by the rebels and therefore couldn't act as a symbol or leader to them. Katniss only ever wanted Peeta back. Who is she to complain what form he came back in? After all, a body is a body. He's still Peeta, and he still loves her.
