FAQ FOR INCONSISTENCIES/LORE CHANGES IN "THE DRAGONBORN LEGACY"

WARNING: SPOILERS!!!

It's been brought to my attention that some of my readers were confused about some of the changes made in my story. Most of these can simply be boiled down to "It's fanfiction, and thus changes need to be made," but I figured I would explain those changes a bit more in depth here. I will update this page as the story goes on and more people have more questions.

1. Why was Serana only asleep for 1,000 years instead of 4,000? Serana's backstory, while interesting and well thought out, was an absolute nightmare in terms of actually figuring out when she was born, when she became a vampire, when she was locked away, etc. It's actually been confirmed by Bethesda that she WAS locked away sometime in the 2nd Era, so I just ran with that. In this version of the Elder Scrolls universe, Serana was born some time in the early years of the 2nd Era. The Alessian Empire had already collapsed, as did the Empire of Reman Cyrodiil. The Falmer and Dwemer were already long gone, thus her lack of knowledge about them. Also, it's important to note that during her time as a human, Serana was part of a noble family. She didn't sully herself by delving into ruins, she was much too busy pursuing her talents as a mage and trying to join the College. Let's say Serana was actually born in 2E 16, became a vampire in 2E 43, and was sealed away in 2E 350-ish.

2. How come Valkyrie was able to use the Oghma Infinium more than once? No other Daedric artifact is limited to a single use. Why should this one be any different? Besides, I needed a way to slowly make Valkyrie stronger, without making her extremely OP all at once. Notice how after the first two times she uses it, she not only is a more capable fighter, but is suddenly able to use basic magic despite no training? That's Hermaeus Mora's influence, and it will come into play later on.

3. What language was Falion speaking during the ritual? It was actually meant to be Aldmeris, but there's very little information online about the language and how to actually form sentences with it, so some creative liberties had to be taken. His lines are more or less meant to roughly translate to his original dialogue in the Rising At Dawn quest, but even that particular bit of dialogue was pretty hokey, and I thought it sounded much cooler and more ominous spoken in a strange, unknown, alien language.

4. Why was Valkyrie able to Shout despite not having absorbed any dragon souls? Because dragon souls or not, she's still the Fuckmuthering Dragonborn, and thus Shouting is inborn to her.

5. DID ULFRIC JUST KILL FREAKIN' ALDUIN?! No. If you pay attention to the brief physical description given to the dragon at Helgen, you'll notice that it's a regular ass dragon. Alduin is a unique cosmic entity destined to eat the fucking world. He gets more build up than that...

6. UlFrIc StOrMcLoAk IsN't ThE dRaGoNbOrN! Yeah, no shit. But in vanilla Skyrim, it's stated pretty clearly that he trained with the Greybeards from a young age. Quite honestly, not having him claim to be the Dragonborn to gain trust in his Nordic followers was a pretty stupid oversight by Bethesda.
