After the end of the war, not all humans were cheering, nor were they forgetful. Just because the criminal was innocent does not mean that the damage was undone or forgiven.

Smash was once fun, but when Ganondorf took over after Melee, the fights became tournaments of death for the bloodthirsty crowds. Link, the once Hero of Time, is one of the Champions and thus meant to mentor a new young fighter in the latest cruel game of survival. Smash in the style of The Hunger Games (more of a bizarre hybrid than a straight crossover).
