I am proud to say that after having been just a reader of fanfics for so long, I am finally trying my hand at writing them! I've wanted to try for a while now but due to low self-confidence and laziness, I haven't tried. I would appreciate reviews but please don't feel pressured to do so. Can I just say that I think i is completely ridiculous to even consider taking down fics from a site designed for posting them? If there are issues about ratings and sexual content then simply asking writers to refrain from posting explicit content on this site and redirecting them to post on a site for a more adult audience would suffice. However, deleting stories which so many people have spent hours developing and writing due to an issue that can easily and readily be remedied is unacceptable.

Also, while it is true that ff writers are borrowing characters and plots from existing works, the twists writers add to them are entirely their own. Deleting something spun from a combination of inspiration and imagination and with no profits involved other than reviews and criticism is not only ludicrous, it is also an insult and an open rejection of the creativity people have poured into their fics. Fanfiction allows people to expand and share their ideas while helping them develop better writing skills and character/plot development. To take something that promotes improving literacy skills and creativity is a complete and utter contradiction to the concept of education and freedom of expression.

Several writers have begun a petition to argue against the deletion of fanfics and I sincerely hope many more people will sign it.
