I've wandered in and out of different fandoms for a really, really long time. I am, as the saying goes, older than compost and am a drunken sot who, despite post graduate education and almost 30 years as a professional, still cannot manage consistent comma placement. I do try.

About Stuff

STUFF was the first fan fic I ever wrote. The story was written in late 1995 and early 1996, a chapter at a time, after the release of DARKSABER and the CORELLIAN TRILOGY. I pulled the story from the web in 1997. It returned to http:// in 2001 and has been there ever since.

I've resurrected this moniker because it came to my attention that STUFF continues to circulate in the Star Wars fandom. I saw it recc'd on a Livejournal site in the summer of 2010 and when I looked at Delicious bookmarks, 14 readers had it marked, the second most under the Luke/Mara Star Wars fan fic tag.

The story is older than some of the readers who are apparently recc'ing it.

Since STUFF, I have written (conservatively) 1.5 million words of fan fic under this moniker and many others. Some of those stories are lost forever, disappearing when private archives went down, when Geocities disappeared, and in hard drive crashes, and corrupted floppy disks. It is with great humility that I concede that should probably not happen to STUFF.

It is a Luke and Mara togetherness story -- for the most part, they are the only ones in it. It is now alternate universe to the storylines set out in the later books and the prequels.

The webmistress to CJ, Dunc, has cleaned STUFF up a few times over the years and has graciously hosted it for a very long time. So many people have been a part of this story, for so long, it's impossible to thank them all. You know who you are and that I owe you a debt I can never repay.

The shame and then pride of authorship have been replaced with a sort of numb acceptance. As Luke would say, STUFF is wretched, melodramatic space trash. Mara would counter that we all need a little trash in our lives.

As of September 1, 2011. oops. Sorry about the lack of updates. I'll do this more regularly, though it's not as if it's a surprise. If you are new to the story, do let me know! I'm writing a lot under other monikers on this site and AO3 in other fandoms, with a recent foray into new Dr. Who. There are grammar, spelling and typographical errors. This thing has been through numerous beta testing rounds with many readers and has been proofed, and re-proofed. It will never be perfect and those imperfections are part of what made it what it is -- though I think Rogue is now spelled properly.

At the time of its release, I thought Stuff was about PG-13. Now, I doubt it even merits that rating.

When I wrote it, the single greatest complaint was the amount of hard liquor Luke and Mara consumed. Luke gets drunk. So does Mara. If you are bothered by this fact, it's going to be a difficult read.
