My Stories
Beneath the Penumbra
Penumbra is a shadow or dark spot, and to look beneath it you'll find the umbra, the light. It's describing how we have to look beyond trivial things in order to find these the light in the darkness.
Inception: I was reading A Thousand Splendid Suns and it really got me thinking about the life of women who don't marry because of love and the pain they must feel (if they don't like their husbands). I thought what would it be like to live as one of those women and one day, find a man that completely changes your world.
Inspiration: The song Home by Vanessa Carlton (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d4hRENZEv3A) really gets me pumped to write this story. It's very bittersweet and it definitely sends a very emotional message in my opinion.
Theme: I think the overall theme to look out for is 'relationships and the properties to make a good one'. The idea of how you know you are close to someone, and to know when your not close at all and to know who you always have a home with is what I want who ever reads this story will think of.
My Paramour
To simply put it, when you hide a side of yourself, it's like having a secret lover. You want to keep that part of you but you don't want anyone else to know, and so you keep them behind closed doors and simply try to hide the fact that you are this kind of person.
Inception: I was browsing through Deviantart and I happened to come across this really awesome picture (http:///?qh=ion=&q=rukiaprincess#/d32mez5) where the artist comments on how Rukia is like a princess because she is surrounded by so many men who are willing to do almost anything for her. And so it kind of hit me because I've always wondered what it would be like having an older brother!
Inspiration: Mainly the picture is what gets me pumped up to write. But I guess it also comes from my everyday life experience. I didn't really realize how much this story kind of reads out like my life in a way. But I suppose that is a good thing right?
Theme: What I hope you get out of this story is this idea of being yourself. I know that it really is a cliche message but one that is really looked over. This is still something that I find I struggle with everyday and I'm the one trying to give the advice! But in all seriousness, try and be yourself, it makes it easier to make friends and the ones you do will like you for who you are instead of something you just made up. Just a thought to put into your head.
A Coming of Age Story
Yes... it needs its own section xD
I wanted to write a chronicle or multi-storied tale that encompassed this larger idea of "Coming of Age" or "Growing up" since the middle of BtP. But I never felt a greater push to actual do it till I read Great Expectations in school. Then, all these story ideas just seemed to piece together and come together to create this story idea. And so for a year, I kept it in my head, thinking of how I would execute this journey I want to take readers on till finally, I had the guts to actually start it, and now, I'm not sure if I can go back on it.
(Part I) The Frittle
A frittle is a non official term for a mark or indent made by a textured object on the skin. So basically, this part of the story is "The Mark" or "The Change".
In all coming of age stories, there is always a beginning. You start with the innocence that comes with the ignorance you are given of the world. And the beginning of your coming of age, is this fall from innocence. You have this change, a realization. But in my story, I didn't really want to be a fall, but rather a rise. Because falling is tragic, and this story isn't a tragedy. Sad, maybe, but not tragic. It is the slower part of things since it is mostly just a way of introduction, but it is a necessary element in this Coming of Age Story.
