Look up... no, a bit more... Yes, I'm British, which seems to make me in the minority on this site! And at least that explains my propensity for using 's' rather than 'z' and those pesky 'u's we like to put in words.

I'm a failed cynic. I try desperately not to ship, but I get roped in time and time again. I like to think I'm a "realistic" shipper though - no completely mad character-defying actions!

I sat and lurked for a long time before I got up the nerve to write myself. And when I finally posted I was amazed at how encouraging and supportive readers were, something I continue to value.

I was Bones fan through the first four seasons, as obsessive as it's possible for me to get! And then, for some reason I've never been able to properly identify, it lost its magic for me. Maybe it was because I just couldn't see it going anywhere and I really didn't want all that UST simply strung out until it was eventually cancelled without resolution. Anyway, I've never really got back into it, although obviously I know what's happened since. I would still really like to finish 'Past Futures' because I knew exactly where I was going with it, but somehow it didn't seem to flow well once I fell out of love with the characters.

These days, my viewing habits range quite widely but nothing has gripped me the way Bones did. There are lots of shows I love that I doubt I'll ever write for (Fringe, Haven, The Newsroom to name but a few) either because I don't think I will ever be able to get into the characters' heads enough or because there is just no way I can recapture the feel of the show. The latter is particularly the case with The West Wing, which is without a doubt my favourite show of all time, with nothing even coming close since it ended, but I know I'll never be able to emulate the atmosphere or the dialogue.

I write sporadically these days, so it seems only fair to warn people. My inspiration only visits on rare occasions and then doesn't linger very long! My experience with multi-chapter work has put me off - not other people's reactions, but my own lack of discipline - so when I do write I try to limit myself to one-shots unless I really can't resist the lure of longer work.

I sometimes get asked (nicely!) why I struggle to produce work more regularly and the truth is I don't know - a combination of lack of inspiration and laziness? My only excuse is I hold myself to what I consider to be very high standards and I won't publish things I'm not happy with, so some of my work is discarded before it reaches this site. I stick to the tenet that I have to be able to imagine my characters saying every word I put in their mouths and sometimes my attempts at dialogue are simply beyond belief, hence it being consigned to the recycle bin! I truly envy those of you who can produce such consistently high quality writing without waiting months between pieces.

Always happy to hear people's opinions - and it's especially gratifying to know people still sometimes read my older work. Over the past few years I've started things but never published them, but I suppose the first step is actually logging on to update my profile! I do still read my reviews and a little seed of inspiration occasionally sprouts, so who knows...?
