Anyway, this is a profile, so I ought say something... "And this life sentence that I'm serving 'Cause I've been housing all this doubt and insecurity, and I gotta get outta here I am a hostage to my own humanity ~Be My Escape, Relient K Here is a wonderful video I found on Youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SGA2n0Bfxn0&feature=related And here is an analogy of grace. An Analogy of Grace In a religion class, the professor realized that his lectures to his students weren’t getting through to them. They simply stared through the class, bored. So, he resolved to change that. One afternoon, he called one of the football players into his office. He asked him if he thought he could do 300 pushups. The football player considered. “All at once?” “No,” the professor responded, “with breaks in between.” The football player thought about it and nodded. “Yeah, I think I can do that.” The professor thanked him and asked him to come to the first class the next day. The next day, the students were interested in the football player’s presence, and questioned him. He said that the professor had asked him to come. Then the professor walked in, carrying several boxes full of hot, Krispy Kreme Doughnuts. The students were attentive now, curious as to what he would do next. He went up to the first person on the end of the row, and asked them, “Would you like a hot, fresh, Krispy Kreme doughnut?” The student responded, “Yes, I would.” The professor turned to the football player and said, “Will you please do 10 pushups so that he can have a doughnut?” “I will,” said the football player. And he did. The professor proceeded down the rows, until finally he reached a certain girl. “Would you like a hot, fresh, Krispy Kreme doughnut?” he asked her. “No, I wouldn’t,” she replied, crossing her arms stubbornly. “Not if he has to do the pushups for me. I’ll do my own pushups.” The professor smiled and shook his head. “That’s against the rules. Would you like a hot, fresh, Krispy Kreme doughnut?” She still shook her head. So the professor turned to the football player and asked, “Will you please do 10 pushups for the doughnut that she does not want?” And he said, “I will,” and did. The professor took the doughnut and laid it on the girl’s desk. “If you want it, it’s there.” He proceeded through the class, and some said yes, and some said no, but all had a doughnut laid upon their desk. The football player was tired by now, but others had gathered from other classes to see what was going on. The professor continued to ask the question, “Would you like a hot, fresh, Krispy Kreme doughnut” of everyone, even those from outside of the classroom. And the football player did 10 pushups for all of them. When all of the students had been served, the professor thanked the football player, and he left, tired, but having fulfilled his goal. The professor had a point to make about grace. Jesus was the football player, and he paid the price to give us grace—even if we didn’t want it. He didn’t limit grace to the people of Israel (the classroom) that it was presented to first, but allowed all to come and partake of it. And even if we were like the girl who refused the doughnut, he still left it on the desk, for us to take if we realized we wanted it.
