Chapter 50 – With a Heart of Light
"Kira! Connor!" Tommy and Kim cried, being the first to see them fall. They rushed over, fearing the worst, but were relieved to see the two already coming to.
"Oh thank god!" The parents cried, holding on to them for dear life, Kira's aunts and uncles not far behind them.
"You guys are ok right?" Trini wanted to clarify.
"Yeah, just tired." Kira told her. Neither of them had tried to get up yet, knowing they were too weak, but they were far from dead, or even injured. "I told you as long as we use our power together we'll be fine." She added smugly, earning headshakes and eye rolls from her family.
"We will not apologize for being protective of you." Tommy said. "Either of you." Neither of them could fault their family for that one and so let it drop.
"I'm glad you guys are ok." Karone said, having come over. "And I'm so sorry for everything." Everyone had been so focused on Kira and Connor and whether their little venture had cost them their lives that they'd momentarily forgotten about those that their power should have brought back to the side of good again. Karone stepping forward brought that awareness back.
"Karone!" Zhane cried after doing a double take and launching himself at his wife, lifting her into his arms and holding her close. His reaction was what the others needed, all of them turning to see that those who had been turned evil by Thrax were good once more.
"Tanaya!" Dillon shouted, rushing to his sister's side, Flynn following but getting there half a second earlier, to Dillon's annoyance. Casey spotted Camille around that time and ran to her while Lily, who'd been watching the battle from the loft, had teleported in the moment she'd seen Jarrod was back, the two already being wrapped in each other's embrace.
"Dad!" Both Trent and Nick cried, running over to their fathers' sides. Udonna joining Nick and Leanbow while Trent pulled Elsa and his dad into a hug. Lucas went to his father-in-law's side and clasped hands with him, immediately giving him an update on his daughter and grandchildren, while Merrick went over to stand by Zen-Aku, glad to see his friend back to normal. The big surprise, however, was that there was one more person no one had been expecting to see, and one no one would have recognized if he didn't have a twin that six Rangers knew very well.
"Hello uncle." Cam said as he approached Lothor, or Kiya, he supposed, and hoped.
"Nephew." Kiya murmured, hanging his head in shame.
"Welcome back!" Kira called over to them from her place still lying on the ground, though she and Connor had found the energy to prop themselves up. "I knew there was good left in you."
"You sure about that?" Hunter muttered, his leg getting swatted for that comment as it was all Kira could reach.
"Yes I'm sure." She returned.
"Our power would have destroyed anyone who was truly evil." Connor corroborated. "We told you months ago that there was still good in him, that there was a part of him that was forced to be evil. So long as that part exists, he was never truly lost."
"I might have to disagree with you on that." Kiya said. "I chose to become Lothor. There's no going back from that decision."
"Of course there is." Kira said, refusing to allow him to wallow. "Did you not just see us give Thrax a fresh start? We literally turned back the clock for him, he's starting over as a baby. If that's what would have been best for you it would have happened, but The Great Power obviously believes you can have your fresh start here and now. And anyone who disagrees with me is going to have their ass handed to them…once I find the strength to get up."
"What Kira's trying to say is that this is a fresh start for everyone." Connor tried to clarify. "Don't hold on to past grudges or judge them now by who they were in the past."
"It's not too late for him." Karone said, coming to stand next to Kiya. "If it wasn't too late for me, it can't be too late for him."
"Or me." Ransik added. "We chose the path of evil before we realized how wrong we were, yet you have accepted us with open arms. Don't close them to him now."
"We won't." Cam said, turning to face his uncle. "You're coming back to the Wind Ninja Academy. Dad misses his brother. And you belong with your family."
"Both our dads miss their brother." Mia added, coming around to join her family.
"Hello niece."
"Uncle." Mia replied with a soft smile.
"Great, now that that has been sorted, we have a bigger problem…or rather not a problem, but still big." Kira said, now forcing herself to stand even if she had to allow her father to help her up.
"And what's that?" Tommy asked.
"Zordon is alive."
"What?!" Those who had known Zordon cried together, though six voices reached a level higher then the others.
"Rita and Zedd told me that to reverse Zordon's sacrifice from back during The Countdown, Thrax had to bring Zordon back as well. Zordon's energy placed some sort of seal around those evil forces he died to destroy. So long as his sacrifice remained, so long as he was dead, they could never return. So to bring them back, Thrax had to bring Zordon back as well. I don't know how or where, but they were being their usual boastful selves."
"Meaning it might not be true." Said Master Phant, he and the other Masters having fully joined the battle instead of simply controlling the Spirit Rangers, and the Elephant Master having pushed his way forward to his former student when she collapsed; the only people alive Phant called family were the Jungle Fury team, and he'd be damned if he wasn't right there for them, especially Kira, given what she'd done for him.
"No. If Rita and Zedd were being boastful then he's alive." Jason said disbelievingly.
"And you know this because…?" Trent asked.
"Rita and Zedd were the most powerful, but not the brightest of our enemies." Said Zack.
"They had the tendency to brag about their plans, while being stupid enough to be completely truthful about them." Billy added.
"Now we have to find Zordon." Kim murmured. "I can't believe he's alive…"
"That won't be necessary, my Crane." A voice spoke. Everyone turned to see a woman with long curly blonde hair appear before them, dressed in very little, it had to be said, but her attire did not belittle the power she radiated.
"Dulcea!" The Ninjetti cried together.
"What…how are you on Earth?" Tommy asked.
"She's not really here Tommy." Said Trini.
"You are right, my Bear. My body may still not leave the Sacred Temple on Phaedos, however The Child's power called to me, allowing me to project myself through The Great Power."
"This is impossible." Ethan stated, though he realized in retrospect that after everything that had just happened, there were a lot of things that should be labelled 'impossible' before this one.
"To those who are Ninjetti, anything is possible." Kim quoted.
"Our power called to you? How…why…?" Kira asked.
"The Prophecy is over, it has been fulfilled. So strong was your love that both you and Connor were prepared to sacrifice your life for the other. At that point, the bond you share prevailed against the darkness around you."
" 'If the bond prevails, with a heart of light the Child will be the saviour.' When our bond prevailed, it unleashed the power of the prophecy. So it's over, it's finally over. I'm not longer The Child of Power." Kira laughed in happiness and leaned against Connor, who'd wrapped his arms around her, before stopping short."It is over right?"
"Yes, my Cheetah, the prophecy is over. However that does not change who you are. You have always been and will always be The Child of Power. The prophecy's completion simply means that the question of whether The Child would be swayed to light or darkness is no longer an issue. Those who sought to sway you to darkness, and use your power for their own gain, can no longer do so. Today has merely confirmed what I have known since you came to me all those years ago: that light and love is in your heart. Even within your darkest hour, the love you and Connor feel for each other and your determination to save the ones you love is so strong and so pure that The Great Power thrived around you." Tommy and Jason groaned, never liking to hear of the connection their daughter and goddaughter had with Connor.
"Do not worry, my Falcon and Ape." Dulcea laughed at their reaction. "For it was that same love and determination you showed Zordon that allowed you to become Ninjetti and save him from the monster Ivan Ooze."
"Speaking of Zordon, where is he?" Kim asked, wanting to get back on track.
"The power of the Cheetah and Lion, the ones of the Prophecy, has returned things to the way they were meant to be. Zordon has returned home."
"Home?" Ethan asked. "Isn't that Eltar? The planet we were ambushed on?"
"Yes Ethan." Tommy answered. "But Eltar has not been Zordon's home for many millennia."
"It's the Command Centre." Billy said. "Zordon must have returned to his time warp there."
"But how?" Zack asked. "When the Command Centre was rebuilt Zordon's time warp was taken out, wasn't it? I mean the energy tube is still there, but it's got a picture of us in it now, it's not actually active right?"
"To the contrary." Billy said. "Zordon's energy warp is fully functional, when we used The Great Power to rebuild the Command Centre everything was made as it should be, the only difference being the addition of the portraits of every Ranger team, and with no Zordon, us Originals, being the team he spend ten thousand years preparing for, were given a place of honour, not for us, but for him. As a tribute to everything he worked for." Zack and everyone else nodded and Billy turned to the Ninjetti Master. "I do have a question though Dulcea. With the prophecy fulfilled, with The Child becoming the saviour, does that mean no more evil can harm the universe?"
"Alas, my Wolf, it does not." She said despondently, shattering the Rangers' hopes which had only existed for about half a second. "Evil may very well threaten the universe. New Rangers may join your ranks. However, Kira and Connor's power not only defeated the evil and restored your Ranger Powers, but also saved those that had been plagued by darkness. No longer does the darkness have a hold over them, those evils can never return to haunt you, and there is no evil you cannot beat if your will and hearts are strong enough." The relief was palpable across the board at the news that those who had been evil could no longer become so. "The Power will never leave you and you will always be Power Rangers, but the past is over." She looked at each one of them in turn, taking a moment for herself to absorb all that these extraordinary people had done, all they had accomplished, and what it meant for the universe. "Now I must bid you farewell." She said after the moment was over.
"You're leaving?" Kim asked.
"It is time my mind returned to my body."
"Wait!" Kira cut her off, gaining the High Priestess' attention. Waving over the Jungle Fury team wanting to make quick introductions as they hadn't before, having never seen or been in contact with Dulcea since her and Connor's trip to Phaedos nearly ten years ago.
"Dulcea, I'd like to introduce my friends. This is Casey, Theo, RJ, Dom, Jarrod, Lily, Camille and Masters Phant, Swoop and Finn. They're all, and so are Connor and I, Pai Zhuq Masters." Dulcea accepted the introductions with good grace but it was obvious she was confused why these ten had been singled out. "Pai Zhuq too uses the power of Animal Spirits, training people how to use them. We learned some time ago, that Pai Zhuq was founded by a Ninjetti Warrior during the purges millions of years ago." Dulcea's confusion turned to shock, not having known any others of her brethren has survived. "Guys, this is Dulcea, Master Warrior of the planet Phaedos, and High Priestess of the Ninjetti. Apart from us eight," She motioned to the Originals and herself and Connor. "She's the only surviving Ninjetti." With Dulcea's time being limited, very little else was said, though Kira did promise that her and Connor, and the entire Jungle Fury team, would travel to Phaedos shortly and explain things properly; she knew how much it meant to Dulcea that the Ninjetti had not truly died out.
"We'll come visit too Dulcea." Said Kim. "We should have long ago, and many times since."
"I would like that." She responded with a small smile. "I will leave you then, Rangers." She turned to her fellow Ninjetti Warriors, addressing them before addressing the congregation as a whole. "Remember: to be in harmony with the Sacred Animals is to have the full force of the Ninjetti. Have heart, and believe in each other and the power you share. Trust it. The Sacred Animals shall guide you. Goodbye Rangers." Dulcea's form disappeared leaving many, mainly those who were not used to the ways and words of ancient, powerful beings, in a daze.
"So we're free." Trini said finally. "We'll always be Power Rangers but the past is over."
"We can look to the future without worry." Billy added.
"And leave the battles to the rookies." Said Jason, looking to the Megaforce team, though technically speaking their battle was also over, their enemies having been destroyed by The Great Power.
"Well I for one am ready for retirement." Said Tommy. Those who knew Tommy even just a little bit broke into laughter, Kim patting her husband on the shoulder condescendingly.
"You'll never retire, Handsome. You've still got some colours left to go."
"I think Pink is next, wouldn't you agree, Jason?" Zack teased.
"Oh most definitely. What do you think Rocky?"
"With the little skirt he might be able to pull it off."
"He wishes." Adam muttered.
"Haha very funny guys." Tommy snapped, although he really couldn't find it in him to have any annoyance at this topic at the present moment.
"Connor let go!" They heard Kira say, the Rangers once again turning around and giving her their attention as she tried to free herself from her mate's grasp. "I want to go see Grandpa!"
"You're in no condition to walk." He argued.
"Dulcea just confirmed, yet again, that I'm the most powerful person in the universe. I'm going to the Command Centre. Good luck stopping me."
"Of course you're saying that, not only to the one person who can match you in power, but to the one person who can stop you." Kira stopped trying to free herself and glared up at him.
"You wouldn't." She growled. Connor raised his eyebrow in challenge, Kira sighed in defeat, and Connor smiled, picking her up with the intent to carry her, though she was having none of it. "I can walk you know." She said, wrenching herself from his arms only to fall the moment her feet hit the ground, her legs unable to support her in her continued weakened state.
"You were saying?" Connor asked, bending down to pick her up again. "You're forgetting I know you better then you know yourself. I know you're too weak right now, even if you won't admit it."
"Why am I so much weaker then you?" She grumbled, though was genuinely curious. Connor shrugged his shoulders and gave her the only explanation that made sense to him.
"Because a part of the prophecy or not, you're still the one who's The Child of Power, not me." Kira growled in annoyance but accepted the explanation, not having a better one herself. "Now, if you're so determined I'll carry you. Otherwise I'm about five seconds away from ordering you to rest. Your choice."
"You're really loving that you can order me around aren't you?" She asked with narrowed eyes, though she knew he took no pleasure in that aspect of their bond.
"Yeah, well, sometimes it's the only thing that works with you. You're nearly as thick-headed as your father."
"Hey!"
"No offense."
"None taken." Kim answered for Tommy, who really couldn't fight Connor's statement.
"Kira, you know how much I hate physical contact between the two of you,"
"That goes for us too." Jason added indicating himself and Kira's uncles; her aunts merely rolled their eyes.
"But for once he's right." Tommy continued. "You've just used an enormous amount of power that we thought would kill you. If the trade off for you getting to live is you being weak for awhile and Connor taking care of you, then so be it." Kira sighed but no longer fought, realizing she'd spent more time arguing then it would have taken to just let Connor carry her. Though granted carrying wasn't exactly necessary as there was teleportation to be used.
"Welcome to the Original Command Centre guys!" Zack said as they all rematerialized. While every Ranger had been in the Command Centre just yesterday, it had been brief and given the war that waged none of them had really taken anything in, not even having seen their faces smiling down at them from around the walls.
"This is way better then a hollowed tree." Said Xander, repeating his words from several years ago. "No offense Udonna."
"It's really…retro." Sky said, unable to dis the Command Centre of the Original Power Rangers, but still finding it all looking nothing like the high-tech, sleek look of Delta Command.
"You're calling the Command Centre of the Original Power Rangers retro?" Syd asked with a shake of her head.
"You're from the future Sky." Jen spoke up, this being the first time she'd spoken to her son's future self since the day Ransik returned, though in truth she didn't really count that day for it had been hurried and everyone had been focused on other things. "Everything looks retro. Trust me, I know the feeling."
"We all do." Said Katie. Sky nodded unable to be at ease with his parents', and family's, past selves.
"Our technology certainly is not 'retro.' " Billy defended, going over to his beloved control panels. "When the Command Centre was rebuilt-" He stopped short as something caught his eye. Punching in a few buttons, Billy's eyes widened in shock, happiness, and excitement.
"What is it Billy?" Trini asked.
"The power exhibiter has increased tenfold!" He cried. "Alpha and I have been trying to increase its strength for awhile but have had little success. The only explanation I can think of is that just like when The Great Power rebuilt the Command Centre, it upgraded its technology this time around. I am not certain why, but you shall hear no complaints from me. And it is more then that. It seems that the fusion of the Dino Bio genes inside Kira and Connor, with the molecular make up that makes them able to harness their Animal Spirits, combined with their unique genetic structure as the offspring, and mate to the offspring, of the prophecy as well as their own innate power has made what Alpha and I were prepared to declare impossible, possible! The technology in the Command Centre, while advanced before, is nothing compared with now. And the Morphing Grid's strength has increased to a level even I can't calculate."
"Huh?" Came the expected reply from every single Ranger there save for Trini, Justin Ethan, and Rose; they, along with Billy, being the resident geniuses of the Power Rangers, or his translator.
"When Kira and Connor unleashed their power, the Command Centre's technology got an upgrade." Trini translated.
"THAT IS CORRECT, TRINI."
"Zordon!" The Originals cried upon hearing their beloved mentor, friend and father's voice seconds before he appeared in his energy tube. No eye of anyone who had known Zordon was dry, the guys sobbing just as openly as the girls.
"Grandpa!" Kira cried, trying once again to get down from Connor's grasp, though he merely tightened his hold.
"Kira, stay put!" He snapped giving her an order as he'd threatened to do, Zordon's appearance changing nothing for him, his first concern still being his mate. She glared at him before giving her attention back to Zordon, bursting into tears herself.
"KIRA…?" He murmured, looking down on the young woman who he'd last seen as a baby. "YOU'VE GROWN INTO A LOVELY YOUNG WOMAN, JUST LIKE YOUR MOTHER."
"We thought we'd never see you again." Kim cried, holding on to Tommy for support, though he held onto her just as tightly. "We didn't know…we didn't even get to say goodbye."
"That's my fault." Andros said, looking up at Zordon with relief and sorrow.
"NO ANDROS, IT WASN'T. YOU DID THE RIGHT THING DESTROYING MY ENERGY TUBE."
"I'm just so glad you're ok. It's good to see you again, old friend."
"IT IS GOOD TO SEE YOU ALL AGAIN TOO." No one spoke for a moment, those who knew Zordon too emotional to do so, while those who didn't were waiting for introductions. Eventually, Jason gave them.
"Guys this is our old mentor, Zordon of Eltar. He was the first to harness The Power and create Power Rangers, as well as the Morphing Grid. Without him, we wouldn't exist. And…where's Alpha?" He went to introduce their robotic friend, not having had the chance the other day, only to find him missing.
"Right here Jason." Alpha said as he teleported in. "I thought your family should know that all was well, and-"
"ALPHA!" The robot stopped in his tracks hearing that voice and slowly turned towards the ancient sage.
"Zordon…?"
"YES ALPHA, IT IS I."
"Aye yai yai! You're back! But how?!" If Alpha could cry, he would be.
"It's a long story, Alpha." Kim said, coming to his side and wrapping an arm around him.
"Zordon, did you know you'd return when you asked Andros to destroy your energy tube?" Kat asked, being nearly as emotional as the Originals.
"NO, KATHERINE, I DID NOT. THRAX'S POWER FAR SURPASSED THAT OF HIS PARENTS. TO ACHIEVE HIS GOAL OF RETURNING ALL EVIL TO LIFE, HE NEEDED TO UNDO THE ENERGY THAT HAD TURNED THEM GOOD IN THE FIRST PLACE. BECAUSE IT WAS THE ENERGY OF MY LIFE FORCE, HE NEEDED TO RETURN IT TO ME, WHICH HE COULD NOT DO WITHOUT BRINGING ME BACK AS WELL. THRAX BELIEVED THAT HE WOULD BE ABLE TO CONTROL ME, FOR HIS POWER IS GREAT, HOWEVER, THERE WAS ONE THING HE DID NOT ANTICIPATE."
"What was that?" Kira asked.
"YOU KIRA."
"Me? But how?"
"YOU ARE THE CHILD OF THE PROPHECY AND FOR THAT REASON ALONE YOU HOLD A TREMENDOUS AMOUNT OF POWER. ON TOP OF THE POWER FORTOLD IN THE PROPHECY, YOU HAVE HONED YOUR SKILLS AND GAINED POWERS OUTSIDE OF THE NINJETTI. BECAUSE OF THIS YOU WERE MORE THEN CAPABLE OF DESTROYING THRAX AND RELEASING THOSE FROM UNDER HIS SPELL. BUT THAT IS NOT ALL. WHILE THE POWERS YOU POSSESS ARE INDEED IMPRESSIVE, IT IS THE LOVE OF THE BOND IN THE PROPHECY THAT FILLED YOUR HEART AND GAVE YOU THE DETERMINATION TO SAVE THE UNIVERSE AND THOSE YOU LOVE. THAT LOVE ALLOWED YOUR POWER TO BECOME SO STRONG THAT ALL EVIL COMBINED CANNOT MATCH IT."
"Speaking of the bond, I'd like you to meet my mate, Connor, the oaf refusing to see I can stand on my own two feet."
"Give it up Kira." He said. She sighed and glared at him once more. He ignored her and turned to Zordon."It's nice to finally meet you. I've heard a lot about you."
"IT IS NICE TO MEET YOU TOO. I HOPE TO HEAR MORE ABOUT YOU WHEN THERE IS MORE TIME."
"Yes, enough talk for one day." Said Tommy. "We've achieved something great here today and I think we'd all like to go home and see our families." Those who had kids nodded empathetically. They had started the day worried that they'd never see their kids again, and now they would.
"Zordon," Kim said. "We'll come back tomorrow, bright and early. We want you to meet our kids."
"Tommy and Kim aren't the only ones with kids now." Said Kat happily.
"SO MUCH HAS HAPPENED. I CANNOT WAIT TO MEET THEM, AND TO HEAR WHAT HAS HAPPENED SINCE…I'VE BEEN GONE."
"And we look forward to it more then you can know." Said Trini.
"Before we all disperse, there's just one thing I don't get." Rocky said, everyone waiting patiently for him to continue. "How did Thrax bring you back? I mean I get why he needed to, but how did he do it?"
"How did he bring all those villains who were destroyed back?" Justin asked in return. "And not the ones he turned evil again, but the truly evil ones who were destroyed. Like Zordon said, his power is great." With no other readily available explanation, the Rangers accepted that and stayed long enough to introduce Zordon properly to all the other Rangers, to those who were his legacy. After being introduced, the Rangers who did not truly know Zordon left, one team heading back to their time immediately, Syd and Sky greatly missing their daughter, while others like Trey and the Aquitians went home was well, though the Galaxy Rangers decided to stick around for a bit. The others, the inner Ranger family, hung around till they were the only ones left before saying their own goodbyes.
"And now it's bedtime." Tommy said to his daughter who rolled her eyes.
"Dad I'm fine. And I'm nineteen years old." Said Kira. "You don't get to give me a bedtime anymore."
"Suck it up Kira." Kim said. "Most powerful person in the universe or not, we're still your parents."
"And I'm still nineteen years old and-"
"Parents or no parents, you don't have a choice." Connor said. "We're going home, we're going to assure our siblings and my parents that we're safe, then we're going to L.A. and hopefully sleep for the next week."
"Not going to happen." Kira assured him. "We're back here bright and early tomorrow." She looked up at Zordon and smiled feeling happier then she had in a long time. "My family's whole again. I'm not spending the first day of that lying in bed." Connor smirked and subtly leaned down to nibble on her ear.
"You sure there's nothing I can do to convince you?" He whispered. Kira's eyes widened as she whipped her head around to see if anyone had heard. What he'd said had been pretty innocuous, but her entire family was standing nearby.
"Connor…" She hissed warningly.
"Not even…" His voice lowered even more.
"McKnight!"
-C/K-
7 Years Later…
The seven years since the final battle against Thrax and his resurrected forces had been hectic to say the least, though the Rangers would forever be glad that this particular 'hectic' had very little to do with evil beings intent on destroying them. As Dulcea had said, new villains had appeared and new Rangers joined their ranks, but the battles were left largely to the rookies save for the odd battle here and there, for no Ranger was ever going to stand idly by and watch people be attacked if there was something they could do about it. Only once in those seven years had Kira and Connor had to step up and use their power when the new villain got the drop on the new team of Rangers, and even then it was used to protect, not destroy.
As to those new Rangers, none of them were left alone, Kim taking it upon herself, as she always did, to induct them into the Power Ranger Family. No Ranger, tech advisor or mentor escaped her, though none could truthfully say they wanted to; it was impossible for them to say how much having other Rangers there for them meant. Of course, that didn't mean that when a Ranger, who had a temperament to match Eric's when he'd first become the Quantum Ranger, said there was no possible way Kim could be an Original when he'd first met her got to escape an ass kicking from the Original Pink.
Though through all this, the most tremendous difference to the Rangers was the fact that their cover had been blown. The battlefield of Angel Grove Park had, for whatever reason still unknown to the Rangers, not repelled civilians as every other one had. It wasn't that there was some magical protection keeping people away, more their survival instincts kicking and forcing them to run, but for whatever reason that had not been the case this time around. Not only had people seen their battle, but a TV crew had managed to capture it on video, broadcasting it worldwide. In the early days after the battle this proved problematic for those Rangers who had had secret identities for it meant the stares and pointing were in full force. For Kira and Connor, it also meant that those acquaintances that they went to school or worked with treated them very differently after having seen them be the ones to end the battle and the amount of power they possessed. But aside from that, and a fair amount of fame, and a following of fans, mostly young children, they were pleased to say that life didn't change too much. There was some prying into who they were as the world wanting to know the people under the helmets. Unofficial biographies popped up and for awhile everything they did from going for a run in the park, to getting a coffee at Starbucks ended up in the papers, but it ended pretty fast when the Rangers made it clear they didn't appreciate the prying. The media wisely left them alone where they didn't other celebrities for they were Power Rangers, not movie stars, and there was a huge difference.
Lightspeed gave a brief official statement saying that yes, the news had been right and the people they'd seen de-morph mid battle were the Power Rangers, but provided no other explanation, though they did use one fact to their advantage. They highlighted the presence of the Aquitian Rangers and Trey, forcing the world to see that not all alien life forms were out to kill them. They then gave brief, very brief, descriptions of the other Rangers who weren't of Earth, like Andros, Zhane and Karone, and most importantly of Zordon. They ensured the world knew that the only reason Earth still stood was because Zordon, an alien, had created the Power Rangers. This had the purpose of opening up the world's narrow mind, and speeding along S.P.D.'s creation. By 2015 Space Patrol Delta was formed and the first alien life forms were welcomed to Earth. By 2017 S.P.D. was well and truly established as a planet wide police force. 2019 had Earth be officially called a haven for all life forms in the universe, and 2020 saw S.P.D. expand to Aquitar and Triforia, before quickly expanding to the rest of the universe.
Aside from that, the Rangers' lives were pretty…standard. Not normal, never normal, but standard as far as the lives of most other people their age were concerned. They returned to their normal lives, whether that meant work or school, and certainly their families; those with children were especially glad to have that part be standard if northing else. With the final battle over with, Ranger children also began to grow in number, there being a kind of 'Power Ranger Baby Boom.' Within the first year and a half after the battle more Rangers announced they were pregnant then ever before, including, but not limited to, Taylor and Eric, Tori and Blake, Nick and Madison, Jarrod and Lily, Summer and Dillon, and Ziggy and Kate. While some of those had been slightly surprising, like Ziggy and Kate, for Ziggy had not yet worked up the courage to propose to her let alone talk about starting a family, some left their families in complete shock. Jen and Wes and Dana and Carter, who had previously only had Sky and Syd respectively, each had a second child. The S.P.D. Rangers, during one of the newly created bi-annual talks with their Dino Thunder friends on Time Force's holo-com, told them that was another thing that had changed for their future, for the Syd and Sky who'd fought in the battle against Thrax had been only children, and now they weren't.
But, while those two were surprising it was nothing to how the family felt when both Kim and Trini announced they were pregnant again. They were two of the first, actually, to find out about their soon to be second and third children, and both were nearly just as shocked as the others, for it had certainly not been planned, and both cited post-battle celebrations as the cause. Tommy and Jason for their parts, managed not to faint when they found out, though it was a close call, and swore that these would be the last ones. Kira didn't really know what to think about another sibling, but resigned herself to looking after him/her as she had Eric, though on a much bigger scale for there wasn't just a ten year difference, but a twenty year one, and Kira was certainly in a position to be more mother then sister to this child, though Tommy and Kim would never allow that relationship to truly develop.
As for the two of the prophecy, they returned to Los Angeles where Connor started for the L.A. Galaxy and Kira went back to college. As Kira's fourth, and last, year of college approached, the two were faced with what to do next. Connor was happy playing soccer but that left Kira with an unknown future this time, though thankfully this was not necessarily a bad thing. She'd had offers from various pockets of Ranger run operations and was more then likely going to take one, when the choice was taken out of her hands, or rather while not decided for her, took a backseat when shortly into her fourth year, Kira, at age twenty-two, discovered she was pregnant. Like her mother's pregnancy, Kira's had certainly not been planned, but she and Connor were actually quite happy about it, even if Connor had feared for his life when they'd told the family, Tommy and Kira's uncles not taking it too well. They got married not two months after finding out to appease Connor's grandmother, who was very religious and more then just frowned on pre-marital sex, let alone having a child out of wedlock. The wedding was small, by Ranger standards, with only immediate family, and was held at the Command Centre so Zordon could attend, all of Connor's family being able to attend as their identities were well known by then.
They had a son named Jacob Zordon McKnight who was now four years old. Connor had insisted on the middle name after Kira musingly suggested it one time during her pregnancy when they were discussing baby names. He thought it was perfect. Their son was named for someone so important in their lives, even if he'd been absent for the majority of it. Yes, the name was far from usual, but they were Power Rangers, unusual is what they did. Besides, it'd make a great story for Jacob to tell when he's older now that their identities were known; how many people could say they'd been named for an ancient intergalactic morphological being who created the Power Rangers?
The two continued to live in L.A., Connor staying with the team, while Kira stayed home with their son and worked part time with S.P.D. After her entire life being one big roller coaster ride, Kira was actually quite happy to be a stay at home mom most of the time. Then, just over a year ago, baby number two came, a daughter whom they'd named Marian Dulcea McKnight, her middle name coming about for similar reasons as Jacob's. The two had had two children fairly close together, and were unsure if Marian would be their last, but they were certainly planning to wait for another if they decided on a third. But even in something as normal as this, a Ranger's plans never go well and so it was with an ironic surprise that Kira found herself pregnant yet again shortly after Marian's first birthday.
"Ok, this is definitely the last one." Kira muttered to Connor as he helped her off the couch though she was only six months along.
"Isn't that what you said the last time?" He asked with a smirk.
"Keep it up McKnight and you'll be celibate for the rest of your life." She growled, to which Connor scoffed. Even if Kira was serious and she didn't want him to touch her ever again, there was still the bond forcing them together every month, though they got a reprieve from the necessity of it while Kira was pregnant.
"Come on, we're gonna be late." He kissed her on the check and headed out the room. "I'll get Marian!" He called back quietly for the baby was taking her nap and if they were lucky she wouldn't wake up even though they were moving her, she was a heavy sleeper like Connor.
"You say that as if you're never late. Not to mention you're not the one who looks like you swallowed a beach ball. Jacob let's go!" She called to her son.
"Mommy are we going to see Marcus?" He asked as he dropped his toys where they were. He was referring to Blake and Tori's son, who was only a few months older then him.
"And the rest of your cousins, and aunts and uncles and grandma and grandpa and great grandpa. Everyone." She answered with a smile.
"Yay!" A whimper was heard as Connor came back into the room cradling his daughter.
"Jacob, please don't wake your sister." He practically begged. She may sleep like him, but she had a set of lungs to rival Kira's Ptera Scream.
"Sorry daddy."
"Alright, all set? Then let's go." Kira said when both boys nodded. The three teleported to Angel Grove Park, to the exact field where the final battle had taken place, for the annual celebration of their victory, which not so coincidentally was also on the same day as the mandatory annual Power Ranger Family reunion; Kim had decided long ago to just put it on the same day for simplicity's sake.
"What's happening guys?" Ethan was the first to greet them, his wife Angela, the same one from Reefside High, waving from her place a ways over where she was walking with their daughter, who still had to hold her parents hands but loved to walk everywhere.
"How's it going?" Trent added, running up to them from where he'd passed his son off to Anton and Elsa, his wife being on call at the hospital she worked at today, much to her chagrin. Their loud greeting was enough to wake Marian who began to cry, and enough to earn them her parents' ire.
"Great. Good job guys, thanks a lot." Connor said as he gently rocked her, trying to get her back to sleep.
"I'll take her." Kim said as she and Tommy came over with their sons."Hey Marian!" She cooed.
"Grandpa!" Jacob cried, running to Tommy who bent to pick him up.
"Hey little man. What have you been up to?"
"Daddy started teaching me martial arts."
"He did?"
"And he's already better then his father." Kira said, coming to give her father a hug.
"Hi sweetie." He reciprocated her hug then turned his attention to her growing belly. "God you're huge. No more grandchildren ok?"
"That's what I told Connor earlier."
"Speaking of that husband of yours, he treating you right?" Both Kira and Connor, who was still standing right there, rolled their eyes.
"Yes dad. And you know I can kick his ass if he doesn't."
"That's my girl."
"Here Tommy." Kim said as she handed him their granddaughter so she could then turn her attention to their grandson. This gave Kira the opportunity to greet her brothers.
"Hey Eric." She leaned up on her tiptoes to be able to wrap her arms around his neck, a fact she hated though had had time to get used to. He'd reached her height at age twelve and now at seventeen had far surpassed her taking after their father in height where she took after their mother. Her only consolation was that he wasn't as tall as Connor; though why that was a consolation she wasn't exactly sure. Her other younger brother, Samuel Andrew Oliver, was thankfully shorter then her, though there was lots of time to go for he was only seven.
"How you doing Sam?" She asked, changing from greeting one brother to the other.
"Good." He answered simply. Kira and her brothers were as close as they could be given their age differences. Kira and Eric having a similar relationship as Eric and Sam, while Kira and Sam had a unique relationship in that she was like a second mother to him, while not actually being his mother; seven years later they still didn't think it made sense, but they just went with it.
"Kira!" Another voice cried as the Jungle Fury team came over to greet her.
"Hey guys!" She said with a bright smile. Jacob, seeing his friend Tony, Lily and Jarrod's son, escaped from his grandmother and ran off with him to play.
"So how's our goddaughter?" Lily asked as Kira and Connor greeted the others, Master Phant fawning over Kira and her growing belly, having very much been another grandparent to Jacob and Marian, and no doubt would be to this child as well.
"Using me as a pillow." Said Tommy, having re-joined the group after his and Kim's tag team of getting their granddaughter back to sleep.
"Who would have thought?" Jason called as he and Trini approached, along with Lily, who went over to Eric, the two bidding the parents goodbye before heading off to find Sky, Syd, and the others. "The great Mr. Technicolour goes from evil, to good, to pillow. Personally I think it's an improvement."
"You're in for it now Scott!" Tommy growled as he handed Lily her goddaughter and chased Jason out onto the field where they immediately began to spar.
"Look at that guys." Said Rocky, he and most of the family coming over as well.
"Sparring without us." Adam added in mock anger.
"Completely unacceptable." Said Billy. Zack came up behind the guys and draping an arm across their shoulders.
"Shall we?" He asked with a mischievous smirk that the guys reciprocated before running into the fray.
"The kids seem to be having fun." Trini commented as she greeted Aisha, Tanya, Kat and Angela.
"If by kids you mean husbands." Muttered Tanya.
"They better not hurt themselves." Angela got in on the act.
"I don't feel like bandaging any scrapped knees." Kat agreed.
"Not to mention the example they're setting for the real kids." Aisha added.
"At least Connor knows better." Said Kira.
"You sure about that honey?" Kim asked, pointing to a part of the field not far from where Tommy and the others were sparring to reveal that Connor had gotten into a sparring match with all of the Dino Thunder and Jungle Fury Rangers, the three Masters, who tended to be above such things, even having joined in.
"Ok, I retract that last statement and ask forgiveness for have stupidly said it in the first place." She muttered unimpressed. "We can't win can we?" None of the girls could disagree with her, knowing their husbands all too well.
"Mommy my hand hurts!" Jacob cried as he rushed over, cradling his hand.
"What happened buddy?" She asked, bending to his level.
"I wanted to show Tony and Ed the moves daddy showed me." He started, Ed, or Edward, being Ziggy and Kate's son, the RPM Rangers having arrived, though not joined in just yet, all of them still catching up with each other, no longer seeing each other everyday.
"Jacob you know you're not supposed to practice without an adult with you." She scolded.
"I know that's why I went to get daddy but he was playing with Uncle Jarrod and the others, so I went to get grandpa but he was playing with Uncle Jason but they both said they'd watch me, but then Uncle Rocky and Uncle Zack came and they went away. I went back to daddy and he got his attention and he said I could practice and he'd watch me. But he didn't." Jacob rambled. Kira looked over to Connor to see him totally immersed in his sparring match. Her eyes narrowed dangerously and Cassie, who had just come over to say hello, quickly picked up on her mood.
"Hey Jacob, come with Auntie Cassie. We'll go see Auntie Ashley and Auntie Karone and get your hand fixed up." She said, picking him up. "Also I'm sure they'll have some candy for you." She added, immediately cheering the little boy up. Once her son was gone, Kira stood up with murder in her eyes.
"I think they've had enough fun for one day." She hissed.
"Yeah, I'd say." Trini muttered, her and the others not any happier then Kira. It was one thing to spar in front of impressionable kids who often couldn't tell sparring from fighting, given they were Rangers it was better to get their kids used to it when it was with their family, it was another thing entirely to disregard those same kids in favour of their sparring match.
"Connor Matthew McKnight!"
"Thomas James Oliver!"
"Jason Lee Scott!" The three yelled at their husbands, the others leaving it to them, and for good reason. Hearing their full names the three in question stopped dead in their tracks, but they weren't the only ones. All sparring matches came to a stop, the others knowing that tone of voice well even if it wasn't currently directed at them.
"Yes dear?" The three asked in unison.
"Did you or did you not say you'd watch Jacob while he practiced his martial arts?" Kira asked.
"Yeah…" Connor trailed off.
"Then why did he just come to me with an injured hand and a story about how daddy-"
"And Grandpa." Kim added.
"And Uncle Jason." Trini spoke up as well.
"Promised to watch him but then didn't?" Kira finished. The men wisely stayed silent, those around them taking a step back, thankful that it wasn't them being singled out.
"I think it's time they learned to pay proper attention." Kira said.
"Yep." Her mother and aunt said. The two began walking towards the guys, closely followed by the others who, while their husbands weren't directly responsible, could certainly have been paying attention themselves. Lily handed Kira her daughter and went after Connor herself, as Kira couldn't while pregnant, leaving both Casey and Jarrod to Camille. Although still quite unimpressed with Connor, Kira couldn't help but smile. This was her family, her large and crazy family, comprised of some of the most powerful beings in the universe, yet there was really nothing special about them when it came down to it. They were a family, they were parents, brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, and grandparents, and were all friends. That is who they were, who they defined themselves as: a family who just happened to save the universe on occasion. And though it was crazy and often overwhelming, and they'd certainly never be normal, they were the Power Ranger Family, and none of them would have it any other way.
A/N - There you have it, the end! The very end of this entire saga or series or whatever you wanna call it.
Yes, Zordon's back! I didn't actually plan on it, I meant what I said at the end of the Winged Lord and Lady about the Rangers knowing they'd see him again one day not foreshadowing anything, though it apparently turned out that way anyways. What can I say, I'm a sucker for happy endings, and what happier ending is there then their family being complete again?
And that's about it I think. As always, if you have questions let me know and now that the fic is finished I'll answer anything you want instead of simply saying "continue reading to find out". Thank you all for reading and once more...
Review please!
