Chapter 30
With the unfortunate news that spread within the pride, the most affected seemed to be Nala and Kiara. Of course Kovu was upset, because his ex-enemy was offering to sacrifice himself for the pride's future.
Namiya knew she had a chance of losing her cubs, but she was determined to help save the pride. Shupavu was worried about Vitani, and of course his newborn cubs. What if he never got to see them? Angu and Nyota, as well as Lekan, did not understand the situation at all, despite their over-hearing that Simba offered his life to save them.
The black clouds filtered the sun, darkening the African skies, and filling it complete fear. Animals of the plains wanted to leave. Risking their lives was not something they wanted to do. Renoka was willing to fight, to save both his mate and son. Kovu was worried he'd die, especially at Scar's last remark.
"Be careful," Dotty warned her twin sister and she bumped heads with her. Her sister replied in an enthusiastic manner.
"I will. Besides, if I have to die along with Simba to save the pride, it wouldn't matter. I survived in the other battle, remember?"
Dotty frowned as she watched her sister gather with the rest of the lionesses before joining. They were off.
"Scar!" A grey lioness came cantering to the brown lion. Half of his face disposed by the very hyenas he had betrayed, as well as the fire. He was armed with only six claws, as he had lost two when battling hyenas. His scar seemed to grow, stretching across his small, broken face. His lanky physique remained, but it seemed smaller.
"What is it, Rasul?" the king snapped, accidentally forcing saliva onto his messenger's face.
"Simba's planning on fighting you. He says he will die to save his pride," Rasul stated. "Do we kill him or do we keep him captive in order for the throne."
Scar smiled deviously. He turned to the dark lioness that had saved Kovu and Simba earlier. Though she was unconscious, he held her chin and said, "Look, my darling, our son is to become king - something you tried to fulfill for my dying wish," he chuckled evilly. "-something you failed to do, you disgrace to the lion race." he remarked without emotion as he threw her onto the floor.
"What do we do, my king?" Rasul repeated, earning a hostile response from Scar. He grabbed her chin and squeezed it.
"Watch your tongue, beautiful," the king warned. "We will kill him, and try to get Kovu. Kiara is too weak to handle the throne on her own. Like she knows a thing about it - she couldn't even hunt an antelope!"
As soon as Rasul was thrown to the ground, she stood up and watched as Scar left the den. She rallied the other lionesses, beginning to plan the attack.
Waiting for Scar's arrival, Simba took a heavy sigh. He felt a strong, warm tongue pressuring into his cheek. His amber orbs jerked to the side, seeing his mate nuzzle him. Her eyes were congested with salty tears, and she spoke as if her voice was broken.
"You're sure you want to do this?" she repeated for the fifth time.
"Nala, I love you. I want to do this to ensure you have a good future, as well as the pride's."
"The only way I'll have a good future is if I die with you. Take me with you to heaven, my love." she ordered, sternly.
Simba smiled weakly. "I can't let you do that, Nala. I love you too much to see you go through this. Besides, Kiara needs her loving mother with her," He exchanged her a lick.
"I'll try not to die. But I am weakened by your words of suicide." she remarked as she walked to Kiara. Kiara wept into Kovu's fur, his fur absorbing hear wet and salty tears. At the sound of Nala's paws, her ears flickered.
"Mother," she addressed as she embraced the older lioness. "We can't let dad do this."
"I tried, but he's right. It's his decision and we must respect it," said Nala, changing her mind about dying. She would let her mate down, nor Kiara or the pride. Especially her grandchildren. "But I'll be here, I promise."
"He'll be up in the stars to guide you," Spotty added as she approached them.
Suddenly, several roars caught their attention and intruded their conversation. Scar was on top of a small perch, beginning to call out to his nephew. His black mane that blew in the strong wind was now streaked with grey, only a little more than Simba's.
"I've waited so long for this moment, Simba!" he roared in his husky voice. "Now it's your turn to feel the pain. And I, Scar, will feel the position I have always yearned for. If you hadn't been born, I would be king. But your no-good father had to produce you along with your stupid mother who easily fell for him."
"That's not true!" cooed Simba, in defense of his parents. "They wanted what benefited the kingdom! Not just to benefit you!"
"Hah! Simba, so you're boasting now, aren't you? You're saying you're the benefit of the kingdom - so without you, they're worthless?"
"No, Scar. They're my loyal friends and family, who have guided me throughout my hard life," he turned to his pride. "These are my last words." he warned. "You have been a great guide, my friends. Without you, I wouldn't have made it to adulthood. I especially thank my parents for bringing me into this worled and having such genes to make such a brilliant family. Kiara, I know you will be a brilliant queen, and Kovu a brilliant king. Because you are both amazing, so will your cubs. I wish your adopted children the best,"
He looked to the sky. "And, Nala, for being such a comforting mate and mother to our cubs. I love you, my people. Goodbye."
Kovu allowed Simba to roar and begin the battle, as well as Scar. Tears clouded the pride's eyes. Forcing all their strength, the lions battled as hard as ever, predicting the future. Blood and scars. That's all you could see.
Finally, Simba allowed himself to be pinned by several lionesses, and Scar dismounted the perch. He came across his nephew, with several claws extended, ready to slaughter his very nephew. Simba was crying, but out of happiness. He knew what he had to do, but it wouldn't be him being slaughtered. He tackled Scar and the two went rolling into the Zuberi River like Kiara and Zira.
Simba had dropped into the water, dying and colliding with the rocks that were soon hidden by the heavy waters. Kiara screamed as loud as Nala as she saw her father tumble into the water. He had died. For them. Scar remained hanging on the rock, watching his minions be beaten by the Pridelanders that fumed with anger and tears.
Nala finally approached the crazy lion.
"Ah, Nala," Scar exhaled in relief, happy to see her. "Pull me up, and together, we can take the throne again. You, as my mate, will bare my off-spring and become my queen."
"No. Never." She turned, wanting him to suffer. Scar closed his eyes as he looked down to the water. He kept seeing flashbacks of Simba, Mufasa and his father. At last, he could not take it any longer, and let go of the canyon.
His back collided with the low rocks below...
A/N:
I know! Really really sad! I haven't updated in a while, because I was so focused with school. Sorry... But, today I had time so I was like: "I might as well write a chapter."
We still don't know about Namiya belly - that will come in the next chapter. Aaaand, I wrote extra this time. Only one new character.
