Summary: The Crows are tasked with stealing the Midnight Secret. However, a phantom thief that had long gone silent targets the gem too.

"I want you guys to steal the Midnight Secret," Karasuma ordered Vodka, Chianti, Korn, and Vermouth.

"Wait, where's Aniki?" Vodka looked around confused. "He's never late,"

"Gin will not be joining you for the mission," Karasuma informed. "This will test how you perform without Gin's supervision,"

"If I recall correctly, the Midnight Secret is also being targeted by Kage, the Shadow Phantom Thief," Vermouth said. "It was on the news. Though, this is the first time he has made an appearance in many years,"

"Will you be able to compete against Kage?" Karasuma leaned back in his seat with a smirk. "Let's see how you will do,"

The Kaito Kid Taskforce had been sent to guard the jewel, despite the fact that Kid had not sent an announcement card. "Who is this Shadow Phantom Thief anyway?" Nakamori asked.

"You don't know?" Suzuki Jirokichi questioned. "He was a phantom thief active around the same time as Kaito Kid, though Kage doesn't give hints like Kid does. He just announces he's going to steal something and then takes action. He doesn't really care if he hurts people along the way. Think of it as a stronger, smarter, and violent version of Kid,"

"And I thought Kid was a nightmare," Nakamori shivered.

"Trust me, Kid is a dream compared to Kage," Jirokichi warned.

Vermouth was disguised among the many Kid Taskforce officers while Vodka, Chianti, and Korn were all at separate sniping locations. They didn't know when Kage was going to strike, but in the midst of the chaos, Vermouth planned to somehow get the gem before Kage.

"There's someone on the roof!" An officer shouted.

"That's probably Kage!" Nakamori and the officer rushed to the roof where a figure stood on the edge.

The figure wore a black tuxedo with a dark purple tie. His hat was a fedora with a dark purple band. On the left side of his chest was a silver K pin. His eyes were sharp and a sapphire blue hue and his hair was spiky, messy, and black. He had a crazed expression, one of a psychotic murderer. "Greetings,"

"I have a clear shot at his head!" Chianti said through the communicators. Without waiting for a reply, she pulled the trigger.

Kage, as if he had eyes in the back of his head that could watch everything in slow motion, merely leaned to the side. The bullet struck the roof a few feet away from him. He tilted his head and smirked towards Chianti's direction. "You missed,"

"Was that a bullet fired just now!?" Nakamori exclaimed, glancing at the bullet hole and then at Kage. He was a bit unnerved because they were used to going against Kid who used a card gun, never real bullets.

"I have no need for accomplices," Kage claimed. "The sniper meant to shoot me," He did a backflip over the railing and started to descend. He managed to grab the side of the building and maneuvered himself to kick the glass.

"He's on the floor with the Midnight Secret!" Nakamori yelled. "After him!"

Kage easily knocked the guards around the gem case out with simple attacks, though none of them were fatal. He held the gem up with a gloved hand, inspecting it careful. "This is the real one,"

"I suggest you hand that over to me," Vermouth, who hadn't gone up with the rest of the taskforce, pointed her gun at him. It would be a few more minutes before the taskforce arrived.

"I'd rather not," Kage smirked. "Vermouth,"

Vermouth's eyes widened ever so slightly. "So you know about the organization. Then I guess you know what we're capable of,"

"Stop right there Kage!" Nakamori and the others finally arrived. "We've got you surrounded,"

Kage tapped his shoe hard against the floor five times and sleeping gas started to pour out of the hidden compartment. Some of the taskforce was put to sleep while others managed to get a gas mask onto their faces in time. Vermouth fired a bullet in Kage's direction but Kage dodged. Kage tossed a K-shaped device and it expanded, knocking most of the taskforce to the floor hard enough to leave bruises. He then removed his hat and allowed several ravens and crows free. The birds assaulted the taskforce and Vermouth, drawing blood.

Kage took out a detonator and clicked the button. Smoke bombs blinded Vodka, Chianti, and Korn and by the time the smoke cleared, Kage was long gone.

"Judging by your empty hands, you have failed to retrieve the Midnight Secret," Karasuma deduced. "Gin did say that it was certain that you'd fail,"

"Oi, is Gin mocking us!?" Chianti grinded her teeth together in anger.

"Gin even claimed to have gotten the gem," Karasuma added.

"But that's impossible!" Vodka said. "Kage disappeared with the Midnight Secret!"

A puff of smoke appeared in the room and when it cleared, Kage stood there. "Boss, I have successfully retrieved the Midnight Secret," He placed the gem onto Karasuma's desk.

"What is Kage doing here!?" Chianti demanded, about to draw her gun.

"I was curious as to how skilled Kage is," Karasuma told them.

Kage snapped his fingers and another puff of smoke appeared. This time, when it cleared, Gin stood there. "Now can I use the organization's torture dungeon?"

"You have proven yourself so you have my permission," Karasuma nodded. "Though, why did you kidnap Kaito Kid?"

"Because someone had to do a pun with Kid and kidnapping!" Gin claimed. "I'm gonna go grab some fish from the aquarium and partially flood the torture dungeon,"

"Unless it's a shark, I doubt it would bother Kid," Vermouth commented.

Gin smirked. "Kaito Kid is ichthyophobic. He's terrified of fish,"

About an hour later, Kid's screams could be heard throughout the entire building despite the fact that he was several floors beneath ground level. "GET THOSE HORRIFYING CREATURES AWAY FROM ME! I ADMIT IT! KAGE IS BETTER THAN KAITO KID! NOW GET THEM AWAY FROM ME!"

So this was an improved version of V1.

Hmm…what if I did a version where Gin was Kuroba Taiki/Ghost, the younger brother to Kuroba Toichi and accomplice to the original Kaito Kid?
