Theme #4: Dark

In which he was haunted and protected by a spirit.

It was in the dark where the others said they saw a shimmering humanoid shape. Always whenever he had gone long to sleep, lost within his dreams. That's when the figure appeared according to everyone else.

They said it did nothing but stand next to his bedside. It never reached down to comfort him or to ever strike him. It simply stood there and looked at him.

It had only ever once spoken a loud. Japan was the once who had heard it. He told him when he had woken up that it was only two words that were spoken.

It was the words: "I'm happy."

He wasn't sure how to handle that confession. He didn't want to believe it. He didn't want to believe that everything was fine. Not after what had happened.

The others didn't know who it was that stood beside him every night. Some suspected but never dared to confirm it, for fear of upsetting him. But he knew.

How could he not? How could he not know it was his other half? The one who had left him alone in this world.

He wanted to be happy that his other half was ready to move on. He truly did. But just thinking about it left a bitter after taste in his mouth. It left a feeling of resentment. Of harsh denial.

Why did he get to be happy, while he was left here to suffer in silence? Why did the world steal his other half from him?

Was it punishment for what he had done? Was it to confine him in this loneliness? In this desperate longing for his other half?

He knew he would never receive the answers he was searching for. It didn't matter to him. All he wished for was to be able to see his brother once more. But even that was denied of him.

Whether by celestial intervention or by his brother's own will, he would never know. And that was what he hated more than anything.
