You watched the shadows of your dark hair on the floor of the iCarly studio. You were lying on your stomach, the cool floor underneath you. Sam was next to you, on her back with her eyes closed, probably asleep.
You were tired. You had spent the whole day listening to people say how cute it would be if you were dating him.
Usually, you would just not reply, or laugh it off, and never give it a second thought.
But now you were thinking about it. The smiles. The laughter. The word written on your hand in his handwriting: love.
He loved you, and you knew that. He was always there for you. He would do anything for you.
You loved him too. 'But just as a friend', you would always say to yourself. Sure, he's your best friend, apart from Sam. You wondered if he would ever be more than that.
You weren't sure whether you liked him as more than a friend or not. You didn't know what you wanted. These thoughts were making you completely and utterly confused.
In the past, you had huge crushes on guys because they were drop dead gorgeous. You didn't even get to know who they were as a person yet.
You felt guilty now, because he has to be the most amazing guy you know. Any other girl would beg for a chance like this. Except Sam, I guess.
Maybe that's why you're so confused. You love him as a person. You've never loved any other guy that way before. You've never really, truly, loved any guy before.
Without pausing to think, you voiced your question aloud.
'How do you tell if you like a guy, if you didn't think you liked him, but maybe you have for a long time and didn't realise?'
You stopped, remembered Sam was right next to you, and hoped she was fast asleep and didn't hear you.
A few seconds went past, you watched her carefully, hoping she wouldn't wake up. Reassured that she was asleep, you gave a sigh of relief.
'I guess you could think of the reasons why you should like him, instead of focusing on why you shouldn't like him', Sam said, eyes still closed.
'I thought you were asleep!', You said, surprised, before thinking over what Sam had said. Sometimes, it was Sam who gave the best advice when you least expected it, but you needed it most.
You tried to clear your mind of negative thoughts.
What if he doesn't like me? Of course he does! What if it ruins our friendship? It's worth the risk.
'Why, do you like someone?', Sam asked, finally opening her eyes and sitting up.
'Maybe...', You replied, sitting up as well.
'Is it Freddie?'
'It could be. But don't tell him anything!', you warned her.
Sam smiled, 'I'll try, no promises'.
Why should you like him?
He's amazing. Sweet. Nice. Funny. Polite. Charming.
You're perfect for each other.
