It's Over

Her screams echoed throughout the room.

Optics wide to the brim, she was alert and out of recharge. The smell was still in her noes. The dampness of the prison, the stench of rot, freshly spilled energon.

It was real. It was so real... It would always come back to her in her sleep.

Bodies so full of life, lying on the floor. Their home now a cemetery. It was a place where hope came to die.

The door to her room opened. It was Wheeljack. Once their optics linked, she felt her cheeks grow moist. Soon, she felt his arms around him. She continued to sob.

She could hear him cooing out reassurances.

"It's gonna be okay, shh..."

"They were real..." she began, hiccuping. "It was so real. I couldn't do anything to save him, save all of them."

"I see them, too."

She looked up. She forgot. He was a soldier like her. He fought as many battles. Saw as much as she did, lost as much as she did. He was the only one who understood her.

"The war's over, 'Cee. We don't have to fight anymore. It's gonna be okay..."

She forgot. The Decepticons disbanded. Cybertron's heartbeat was alive.

The war was over.

After fighting for so long, she forgot the meaning of peace.

Another hiccup left her system. "Could... could you stay with me tonight?"

She didn't want to be alone. It could all come back to her, and Primus knows where she'll be. With him, the nightmares went away.

"Sure."

She gingerly places her arms around him. As they wrapped the blanket over each other, she rested her head on his chest. She could feel the hum of his spark.

She heard him as her eyes drooped. "It's over, 'Cee... It's over."

A small smile was on her lips.

Yes... The war was over. There were no fights on the battlefield. There were no more nights where she had to sleep in fear. Beside him, she knew this was a peaceful night.
