Chapter 40
Baseball

The days that followed Edward's proposal passed by in a flurry of activity as I tried to rein in Alice's enthusiasm. Granted there was much to do, but Edward and I had decided to wait until our newest human guise became an adult. Not only that, but we had to pass High School as well. We still had over a year to plan since Edward and I were both going into out junior year at Forks High School.

As hard as waiting to be married to Edward was going to be, I was happy that we decided not to wait to be mated. Once the mating requirements were met we would complete the ritual and become one. Every night since he gave me the mark of intent I had dreamed of our mating night. I thank the Kami that Edward was such a gentleman that he would not tease me about such dreams if he had happened to overhear them.

As much as I love that he does not verbalize the fact that he hears me sometimes I can tell when he does. On nights that I have steamy dreams Edward often leaves to hunt, but not before he takes a page out of Miroku's book when he kisses me goodbye. Not that I mind in the least, it's those kisses that give me my dreams so frequently. I don't know about Sango, but when Edward's hands fondle my backside smacking him is the last thing on my mind.

"Sister!" Souta called as he barreled into our room just as I had sat down on our bed. Alice had brought me the jewelry I had requested earlier today and I wanted to get to enchanting them as soon as possible.

"Yes Souta?" I asked curiously as I watched his excited face glow with happiness. Life here at the Cullen's suited him well. He was happy with the life we had begun to grow here. Souta had always wanted to big family and with the Cullen's he has that, I was happy for more than just myself that we took the chance on Carlisle Cullen that day in the airport.

"Alice said that there's going to be a thunder storm, and that the family plays baseball! We can go right?" He asked, still till this day Souta will request permission from me before doing anything, even though I tell him he does not need to. I only ask that he keep his phone on at all times in case of emergency.

"Of course Souta, I don't see any reason why you couldn't. I don't think I would be any good with vampire baseball, but I would love to see the game vampire style!" I laughed and Souta shot forward to hug me in his exuberance. Sometimes I can still him as the7 year old he used to be.

A few hours later Souta, Edward, and I arrived at a large clearing in Emmett's Jeep. The rest of our family already there and setting up the field for the game. Souta jumped out the Jeep not waiting for Edward and I to get out first and ran towards Emmett. Edward came over to the passenger side and opened my door like the gentleman that he was, than he helped me down. "Thank you" I smiled shyly, I still find it hard to believe that a person as good and as beautiful as Edward would want me. His return smile was breath taking and he took his hat off his head and placed it on mine.

"Kagome dear, you can be the referee. Just call them how you see them." Esme said as she walked me over to the home base.

"She thinks we cheat," Emmett said as he walked towards us with a smirk. "I know you do," Esme replied in a chiding tone that had Emmett laughing in good humor.

Alice came bounding towards us from the infield, "It's time," she announced. As soon as she spoke, a deep rumble of thunder shook the forest beyond us, and then crashed westward toward town. "Eerie, isn't it?" Emmett said with easy familiarity, winking at me. "Let's go." Alice reached for Emmett's hand and they darted toward the oversized field; she ran like a gazelle. He was nearly as graceful and just as fast — yet Emmett could never be compared to a gazelle.

"Are you ready for some ball?" Edward asked, his eyes eager, bright.

I tried to sound appropriately enthusiastic. "Go team!" He snickered and, after mussing my hair, bounded off after the other two. His run was more aggressive, a cheetah rather than a gazelle, and he quickly overtook them. The grace and power took my breath away.
