((well, she's willing to eat and try anything since she's pretty resilient, but this is the first one that comes to mind))

"What is she eating?"

"It looks, nutritious, but gross."

"Well, she seems to enjoy it. You could enjoy it too Miranda."

"Sorry, I like food that is more appetizing. And color."

"Why is the Battlemaster eating paper?"

"We don't know Grunt, we don't know."

crunch…crunch..crunch….crinkle….SNAP.

Shepard has never been so happy. She's found one of her favorite foods from their last stop on the Citadel and ordered seven packages of it. She's already eaten two of them though, and the third is just about to disappear.

I need to pace myself. These were pretty expensive. Ahh, what the hell. Cerberus is paying for them anyway.

She re-opens the package, takes another piece, breaks it apart and nibbles on it blissfully. Only when she's done with the last piece that she realizes it's dead quiet in the Mess Hall.

Pen looks up and sees astonishment, wonder, disgust?, and wariness on her crewmates faces.

"Can I help you guys?"

Tali wrings her hands nervously and Miranda looks sheepish.

That look doesn't suit her. That's a first, Shepard thinks with amusement.

"Um, Shepard," Tali says hesitantly, "what are you…eating?"

She cocks an eyebrow, and slips another piece of the mysterious piece of dark food into her mouth.

"Something that reminds me of my childhood. It's really good, a damn shame that they don't have a dextro kind so you could try."

"Shepard, please just tell us what it is."

"Alright, alright. It's called seaweed."

"You eat weeds that are in the sea. Is this some kind of ritual that you humans do?"

She sighs. She looks at the piece in her hands and turns it over and examines it.

"It's cooked and spiced, and it's not technically a weed. It used to be a plant, but now it's food that's about to be devoured."

Penny grins and pops another piece in her mouth with a loud crunch that's satisfying to her ears.

"Now, if you don't mind, I have some dossiers to look over."

She leaves the crowd behind and grabs another packet of seaweed before quickly retreating into her cabin.

"Vakarian, I have a question about Shepard."

"Go for it Grunt."

"Is that the way she also eats her enemies for breakfast?"

"Yeah, but she prefers them with a side of bullets as well."
