Ch.1 The Meeting
He steadily stares at the cowering boy before him. The sound of the speaker stills the boy. His voice deep and velvety, choosing words that seems too chummy to the ears, yet looking at the reciever, one can tell its a different story between them. The younger boy seems as alert as a prey before its hunter, he was not dumb. He knew the implications behind those disguised words, no matter how frivious it sounds. The boy hesitates, not wanting to succumb to the wimbs of his oppressor, yet the power and danger that exudes from the older boy compels his legs to carry him forward. His bully smirks in expectation, knowing that nothing was out of calculations. He hands the boy the baseball, then roughly turns the boy around to his fellowers who stood in the spot he had moments before. Now standing from the oppressor's position, he takes on another persepctive, seeing for once for himself, the feeling of power in his hands. He stares at the trembling boy before him, the boy who had once mocked and humiliated him before his fellow students because of his family status. He struggles withhimself in reasons and humanity but the temptations to seek his revenge against them triumphed against him, and he threw the ball hard.
His finger tips shook at the action he took in the moment of culmination. Then he heard the chilling laugh behind him, it shook him to the core. He realized at that moment why Choi Young Do does what he does. It was the feeling of power. He shuts his eyes tightly in shame and falls onto his knees, feeling broken.
Young Do smirks, feeling thrilled over finally breaking a prideful, social care student. He licked his lips at the feat of his doings, as he remineces over the challenge the boy had spat at him the first day he became their target.
You are so disgusting, with all your power and wealth, you could be doing greater things. But here you are bulling the weak. But even if you were to do so, I will never succumb to your will, just try me.
Many of those foolish and prideful social care had tried. But none had succeed. They had all been disillusioned with tales of strong characters whose righteousness will eventually conquer those who acts with evilness. They believed that the way they were brought up will strengthen their resolve to overcome him. But he knew better. Life was no fairy tale, its not fair and he had learnt that long ago.
Putting on his helmet, he starts the engine on his beloved bike. It represented him in many ways, it was the color of flames, flames that could burn those who dares to try him. The smooth, sleekness of his bike looked dangerous and rebellious, much like how he likes to deal with the way of life. He sped his bike off school, breaking the path of students like moses to the ocean.
After pushing his bike to the limit, he stops by his usual spot; the convenience store in his neighborhood. Taking off his helmet he strutts into the store. Grabbing the usual flavor of ramen, he walks to the window counter, pouring boiling water into the noodles as he prepares his dinner. As he waits with the tickering clock, he sees a pale figure in the distance. He watches out of boredom, but as the figure draws nearer, he could stills out of interest.
It was a girl of his age. But she was not like the girls he was used to. She dressed comfortably in slacks and sweats, a hoodie pulled over her cascading raven hair. When the girl finally enters the store, his head involuntairy trails after her, turning to see that she had grabbed a bottle of soda from the cooler. The girl paid and left the store, then settling down at the available chairs outside. He ponders, mulling over whether if he should pull the chair out of her out of curiousity to her reaction. Looking down at his steaming noodles, he thought better of it. He watches her from the window. She was an enigma to him. The emotions that played over her features were very vivid. She smiled, then laughed, then cried. He wondered how one phone call can have her displaying so much when all that is before her is the night.
He watches her as she calms her expression, still unaware of his prying eyes, for a moment he felt like they were two people on the same boat. She like him was alone that night, him with only ramen to eat, and her with only a soda to drink. She then leaves, leaving him with in deep thought as he watches her disappearing figure from the corner of his eyes.
The day rewinds, he pushes the crumbling boy before him against his lockers.
Why? Weren't you the one who said you were above this? Did you finally learned my lesson for you? if so, bow to me, then I will consider your request.
The boy's eyes averted from his to the floor, his pride tattered and beaten. His knees lowers at the chants from the gathering crowd. The onlookers all graced with looks of glee and morbid enjoyment as they watches on. Young do smiles down at the boy in feign sincerity, then without hesitation, he thrust his foot into the boys shoulder, knocking him to the ground, face first.
The boy howled in pain, struggling to get up but too weak to. The crowd cheered on, as the satisfaction of holding power over others rushes through his veins. He was Choi Young Do, a name that he will let no one forget.
