Hey everyone! So I am very aware it has been over six months since I've updated this story. Life has unfortunately gotten in the way as these things tend to happen. But, I now have the time to actually spend time writing again. With that said, here is a little teeny tiny preview of the next chapter. It is about 80% finished, just needs cleaning up and making the transitions a little bit smoother. I will warn right now, while I will be updating more now, it will still be irregular. Please enjoy this little crumb and I should have the chapter up in a couple of days. :) Thanks as well for all the follows, favorites, and reviews of encouragement that have trickled in these past few months. I really do appreciate each and every one of them! The feedback of how much you enjoy this story make me want to finish this all the more knowing that people out there like what I am doing. Thanks so much again! :D

Captain Jack Harkness took in his surroundings. While Rose and River were exploring the underworld lying below the manhole he was standing near he decided to do a little bit of scavenging up above. He was one to never pass up the opportunity to filch an interesting piece of alien technology if he ever came across it. After all, he was a 51st century man still at heart and he missed a great deal of the technological advances and conveniences that came with that century. Not that he would ever voice that out loud, especially around Rose. No need adding to the guilt she was probably feeling over what happened to him, after all he would eventually make it back to that century even if it meant living and feeling each second it took to get there. Although, he wasn't even sure if she knew that she was the cause of his inability to die properly. Another question for another time.

Poking around some of the crates that were near the manhole, his thoughts turned to the Doctor and the strange situation they have all found themselves in. Looking around the warehouse, he saw the beams of light bouncing off the walls in the distance, indicating where Amy, Rory, and the Doctor had run off to. He could hear the reverberations of whatever they were talking about echoing through the building. He still couldn't get over the fact that he had witnessed the Doctor dying. No regeneration, no new body – the Doctor was dead. Yet because of the oddness of time travel, here he was alive and walking around with them on another adventure just like old times. Jack grinned to himself. At least the Doctor wasn't avoiding him anymore and running to the end of the universe like he did that first time Jack managed to track him down. Now there was another adventure where the Doctor had almost lost his life but, like always, the Doctor found away to save the day and himself. While Rose was of the mindset at the moment that there is no hope to save him, Jack wasn't so certain. The fact that they were all gathered to witness the Doctor's death, only to meet up with his younger self, he was convinced that this was all done by design so that they could find a way to prevent the Doctor's death from happening. Convincing Rose of the same thing was going to take time. Something happened to the Metacrisis Doctor and she had just witnessed the Doctor's death. She was in self preservation mode and would need a lot of cajoling to get her to hope enough to help plan a change.

Jack was suddenly torn from his thoughts when some noise caught his attention. It was faint. He held his breath and closed his eyes, focusing everything to his auditory senses. He walked over to the hole and strained his hearing. Suddenly he was jumping down the ladder. He heard yelling. It was faint, but he thought it sounded like someone was yelling 'Rose.'

"Rose!" River ran to her crumpled body on the ground. She had her scanner out as she tried to find out what happened. There wasn't anything apparent that would knock her out, no present bio lifeforms were showing up. She was feeling very disoriented. She remembered leaving the ship, but she couldn't remember anything else other than suddenly finding an unconscious Rose. This was bad, this was very very bad. She looked up as she heard someone running towards them, their hurried footsteps slapping against the wet cement. River instantly stood up and had her gun out of its holster.

"Easy now, it's just me!" Jack yelled as he approached her. He took in Rose's form. "What happened?"

River just shook her head. "We need to get out of here now."

Jack scooped Rose up and gently flung her limp body over a shoulder. With one arm wrapped around her legs to keep her steady, he started to run after River. They sprint out of the tunnel. When they were at the base of the ladder leading up to the warehouse the sound of a gun going off rang above them, reverberating down the tunnel.

"What now!" River growled as they clambered up the ladder and doubled their efforts of getting to the others.
