This is a story I heard at family home evening once.

Once a man of the LDS (Latter-Day Saint)(Mormon) church got on a plain on the way to Salt Lake Utah so he could attend General Conference live. On the plain, he sat with another man. They began a conversation when the second man asked the first (we'll just call him Bob) where he was going. Bob explained that he was going to Salt Lake for Conference. The second man, John, gave Bob a look and asked," You're one of those Mormons aren't you?"

Bob, a bit taken aback, replied that yes, indeed he was. John went on to say that he has attended their church a few times and there was one thing that always seemed to bother him. Whenever they would say their testimonies, the members of the LDS church would always say I know this to be true or I know that to be true. John asked Bob how is it that they would know this stuff. How do they know that what they're saying to be true is, indeed, true? Bob thought about it for a while. He was having trouble coming up with the right words to say. Eventually he asked John ,"Do you like salt?"

John, a bit confused, replied that he did like salt. "Okay," Bob said, "let's say that I've never had salt before. How would explain to me how salt taste like?" John thought about it for a few minutes. He then said, "Salt taste like salt."

Bob nodded his head. "Just as it is difficult for you to explain salt to someone who has never tasted it before, it is hard for me to explain how we know that what we believe to be true is true.'

We come to an understanding of things when we ask God a search the scriptures diligently for the answer. He testifies to us if what we're asking is true or not. The felling that we get when the Lord lets us know that the Gospel is true is like trying to explain salt. You have to feel it for yourself to understand what the members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints are getting at.

"And it came to pass that after Aaron had expounded these things unto him, the king said: What shall I do that i may have this eternal life of which thou hast spoken? Yea, what shall I do that I may be born of god, having this wicked spirit rooted out of my breast, and receive his Spirit, that i may be filled with joy, that I may not be cast off at the last day? Behold, said he, I will give up all that I possess, yea, I will forsake my kingdom, that I may receive this joy.

'But Aaron said unto him: If thou desirest this thing, if thou wilt bow down before God, yea, if thou wilt repent of all thy sins, and will bow down before God, and call upon his name in Faith, believing that ye shall receive, then shalt thou receive the hope that thou desirest."
