AN: For me, suffering from major writer's block means that I am unable to write anything longer than 2000 words, and I am forever stuck writing drabbles and one-shots.

And really sad knk episodes mean really sad fanfiction. Someone has to balance out all the doom and gloom, so have a really quick and spontaneous, unedited akirai fic.

She holds his hand and refuses to let go, tightening her grip every few minutes to reassure herself that he is there. Living and breathing and alive and human.

Mirai sighs as she notices the way the sunlight makes his creamy skin glow and how innocent and human he looks. She stares at him for what seems like an eternity before his closed eyes twitch ever so slightly. Akihito's eyes slowly open, and he feels someone gently holding his hand. The first thing he sees is a teary-eyed bespectacled beauty which definitely does not please him at all because it ruins her perfect face, he thinks.

"Senpai!" Mirai suddenly flings her arms around his neck and pulls him into a tight embrace, sobbing into his shoulder.

He is confused and disoriented and desperately wants to ask her why she's crying and why he's in a hospital bed, but he decides that it's for the best if he doesn't. Akihito hugs her back and runs his hand through her hair and whispers in her ear it's okay, it's okay, everything is okay now. He notices the bandages on her legs and her arms, and he notices how he is bandaged up as well and finally understands.

It happened again.

He lets her go and gazes into her eyes, bringing his hand to her cheek and waits for her to say something.

"I'm so sorry." She says.

"Why?"

"I... tried to kill you, Senpai."

"Well I tried to kill you too, didn't I?" Akihito stares into her cracked glasses, and it feels as if he is going to double over in pain thinking about all the ways he may have hurt her.

"Kuriyama-san, I'm going to ask you again... Do I look like a normal person to you?"

"Always." She says in the sweetest voice she possibly can despite the fact that her throat is burning and that her eyes are threatening to tear up again. She gently caresses the hand that is resting on her cheek and finds herself staring into his eyes and slightly leaning in towards him.

He slowly leans in and gently kisses her forehead and her cheek and the corner of her mouth and finally her lips. She lets out a sigh which sounds like a mixture of finally and thank you, and he can't help but smile because he's been dreaming of this moment for so long and now, finally, at long last, his dreams are coming true, and he hopes and prays that she feels the same way. It just feels so right despite the circumstances that lead up to this very moment.

He wonders what Mirai is thinking or what she might say if she could hear his thoughts. He imagines that she would say something along the lines of, "How unpleasant," and he smile grows even wider.

When their lips finally part, he hears her say something.

"How unpleasant," she says.

He's so lost in the moment that he doesn't hear her very clearly, but he swears he heard her say,

"I love you."
