AN: So it occurs to me that I've been a bad author. I realized long after I'd posted it that this chapter wasn't the complete version. So the end will be different, but the beginning will be the same. Also, there will be a new chapter after this to stay tuned!

In light of his emotional upheaval, he decided that it would be good to ask someone who wasn't as close to the situation for guidance. The problem of course was that he didn't know anyone who wasn't in some way connected to the situation either through him or Blaine. Very few people knew of Sebastian, let alone had met him, but there was the fact that he was in a rival choir to consider. So he did the only logical thing, he called on Quinn Fabray.

Kurt and Quinn hadn't been bosom buddies by any means, but if anyone understood the back and forth of their emotions it would be her. Plus there was the added bonus that she didn't particularly like or hate Blaine and had no idea who Sebastian was. So with a very loose game plan in mind, Kurt approached the blonde after glee that Friday at her locker.

"Hey Quinn?" She looked up at him with a raised eyebrow, scowl firmly in place. She hadn't really been the same since she came back to glee. He supposed it had more to do with Puckerman than it did the rest of them. When she continued to look at him with no answer, he plowed on.

"I was wondering if you wanted to come over this weekend." Kurt invited. Shock crossed Quinn's face for a moment before it smoothed out into her bored expression.

"Why would I want to do that?" She asked cooly and Kurt decided to try the friendship angle first.

"I thought you could use a friend. I've kind of neglected you lately, and I wanted to make up for that."

"Is that so?" She smirked at him and he fought an eye roll. Did she really think she had the right to be patronizing to him? Well, it seemed his patience had collapsed, so he went with brutal honesty.

"Fine, I need your advice and I have ice cream and gossip. You in or not?" Her smirk turned into a predatory smile.

"Oh I'm so in. What kind of ice cream?"

Several hours, and pizza and ice cream, later.

"Okay, so let me get this straight, Blaine broke up with you because this Sebastian guy was making passes at you even though you were ignoring him. And now that Blaine's out of the picture you like the guy?" Kurt sighed resignedly.

"Sounds about right actually; I just have no idea what to do. I don't know if I can trust him." Quinn seemed to eye him speculatively for a moment before she spoke.

"You do realize you don't have to start dating him right away don't you? You can just be friends for now, until you figure out whether you can trust him or not."

"Wh-oh for God's sake, I'm so stupid." Kurt groaned. He hadn't even though about starting out as friends, which was stupid of him. After all, hadn't he and Blaine started that way?

"You're not stupid, you just like him. But if you don't trust Sebastian, Kurt, you shouldn't date him. Just be friends, figure out if you guys have anything in common aside from your sexuality." She shrugged.

"I knew you would be the best person to come to with this." Kurt replied, adding another coat of paint to her nails.

"You mean I'm not the last resort?" She scoffed lightly. Kurt looked up at her and almost instantly felt bad. They really had abandoned her and he'd been the worst, so caught up in his relationship and its subsequent demise he hadn't even tried to talk her back into glee like Rachel had.

"No, you were actually the only person who I felt might understand." He shrugged, letting the emotional moment pass. She looked grateful before she smiled at him.

"Well, I hope I helped."

"Oh you most certainly did Miss Fabray." They both broke into mad giggles at the same time.

Hey meerkat, you up for some coffee?

Maybe, you buying Princess?

If it will make you more compliant, yes.

Honey you don't have to buy my love ;)

Noted. So you'll pick up the tab?

Nope, you've already said you're paying. Lima Bean in 30 min, and I drink a grande caramel macchiato.

Le sigh, fine, see you there meerkat.

Later Princess.

Sebastian smirked as he closed the text conversation, feeling oddly victorious. Gathering up his wallet and keys he left his empty house and got into his fire engine red Ferrari. It wouldn't take him a half hour to get to the Lima Bean so he decided to take a couple of back roads and get his head on straight. He'd been brooding the last week, he wasn't ashamed to admit. Kurt Hummel had that effect on him it seemed.

While hopeful for a relationship, he knew that the most he could realistically count on would be friendship. But that was a start, and really the only opening he needed. At least he'd made his intentions clear. There was no question what he wanted out of this. Now it was up to Kurt to decide what he wanted. It was simultaneously exciting and terrifying, being this close to getting himself into a relationship. In France, there had been boys. Oh how there had been boys, but no one that had sparked his interest beyond the physical.

He wasn't a slut, as so many had painted him. Sebastian liked to think of himself as a libertine or bohemian instead. Indulging in a physical relationship with someone didn't lessen your worth or theirs really, it was just another way to connect. It hadn't been a lie when he'd told Kurt he didn't have to keep track of his conquests. Each one was remembered with fondness. That being said, he was glad he'd found someone he could see himself with for longer than a night.

Finally pulling into the parking lot of the Lima Bean, he saw that he was right on time. Spotting Kurt's Navigator parked next to another familiar vehicle, he cursed his luck. Hoping he didn't have to indulge in any heroics, he made his way inside. With a quick scan of the coffee shop his eyes found Kurt who seemed to be guarding two coffees from his ex. Heroics indeed.

"Really Kurt, you're meeting him here now? At our place?" Blaine was saying with a disappointed frown. Sebastian rolled his eyes as he came up behind the ex-Warbler.

"Hey Kurt, this guy bothering you?" He asked with a playful smirk firmly in place. Blaine spun around and gaped at him for a moment before pulling himself together.

"Sebastian. I was just telling Kurt that it's bad form for you two to meet here where we used to have our coffee dates." He replied with an ironic smile.

"Oh yeah, we meet up to dish about our terrible exes and talk Fashion Week. It's like a cross between Desperate Housewives Ohio and the First Wives' Club." Sebastian replied with a wink. Blaine reddened at the dig, his smile turning into a grimace.

"So you feel like you're the slighted party in this situation?" Blaine asked incredulously. Oh so now he was trying to play innocent? Not on his watch.

"Oh no, I feel like Kurt was. But that's not really your concern anymore is it? Well, if it ever was."

"What is that supposed to mean?" Blaine enquired his voice tight with tension.

"It means I don't think you ever really cared about him." Sebastian snapped, tired of the pretense.

"Sebastian." He looked up and made eye contact with Kurt. His pretty blue eyes were clouded with tears and his face was red in either anger or embarrassment. Either way he got the message, back off.

"Sorry, I'll let you two ladies work this out for yourselves." It wasn't the brightest thing to have said if the flash of hurt on Kurt's face was any indicator, but he was hurt himself. It appeared his heroics weren't appreciated after all. He got up, sketched an ironic bow to Blaine, and left without having touched his drink. There was an angry hiss and the sound of a chair being overturned behind him, but he kept going.

"Sebastian!" He almost ignored it, not wanting to get bitched out in front of the regulars of his favorite coffee place. In the end though, he couldn't really deny he deserved it.

"Princess." He snarked turning to face the object of his affection.

"I'm not sure whether you're more adorable or exasperating." Kurt spat at him, pushing on his shoulder as his lips twitched.

"I like exasperating." Sebastian returned, hoping this meant what he thought it meant.

"You would." Kurt grinned at him. Sebastian felt relief settle over him and smiled back.

"So, can we try this again?" He asked. Kurt studied him for a moment before nodding.

"Yes, but we need to talk about all that as well. I'm not sure what exactly set you off." Sebastian sighed and motioned to his car.

"Let's go to my place. We can talk there and I have a coffee maker."

"Deal."

Trying to go slow enough to not lose sight of Kurt's Navigator behind him, Sebastian drove back to his house. He hoped his parents were still out. This wasn't really a conversation he wanted to have with them standing by. It seemed luck was on his side as his parent's cars were absent from the obscenely long driveway.

"God this place is pretentious. Of course I wouldn't expect anything less from you meerkat." Kurt snarked as he looked up at the huge three story colonial style house.

"And you wondered why I want you? It's those type of comments that that wound me so, Princess." He replied with a wink.

"Right, I can see you're so very wounded." Kurt deadpanned. Sebastian laughed as he led the other boy through the foyer and into the large kitchen.

"Coffee? I have dark roast and blonde but we're out of medium I think." He offered as Kurt sat down at the breakfast bar.

"I'll have the dark roast." Sebastian nodded as he set about making their beverages.

"So, I've come to a conclusion." Kurt declared.

"Oh?"

"I think that you're right, you could make me happy, I'm just not sure if I'm ready to trust someone again so soon after Blaine."

"That's understandable, Kurt. You should get completely over him and figure yourself out before you move on." Sebastian replied, handing over a cup of coffee. Kurt took a drink and smiled.

"You put mocha in it for me?"

"I remember your coffee order yes." Sebastian rolled his eyes and Kurt giggled.

"God, sometimes I can't believe how naïve I was. I must have looked so stupid, following him around like a puppy just because he paid for my drink." Sebastian cursed as he watched Kurt go from amused to depressed in the space of a sentence.

"No, you weren't stupid Kurt. You liked him and it wouldn't have mattered what he did, you would have still liked him."

"Yeah, I guess. I just feel like an idiot. Have you ever done anything like that?" Kurt asked suddenly and Sebastian was grateful for the change of subject.

"Nope, never liked anyone enough. Well, actually there was this one guy I flirted with and sent flowers to, but his boyfriend didn't like it too much." Smirking, he winked at Kurt and was rewarded when he flushed.

"That wasn't embarrassing though." Kurt replied.

"Oh but it could have been. And you did reject them and me until you looked up what the flowers meant."

"Yes, but-"

"So, how do we proceed from here then?" He wasn't interested in re-hashing his actions and what if's. He wanted to know how much of a chance he had with the boy.

"I know this isn't fair to you, Sebastian, but I'd like to be friends first."

"Why isn't that fair?" He thought it sounded fair.

"Because you want more." Kurt replied with a frown.

"Yes, but if we started a relationship right now it wouldn't be fair to either of us. You're still healing and I'm not sure that I can be with you and not hurt you yet, so friends sounds great." There, digest that.

"Oh." Why does he look disappointed?

"Why do you look disappointed?" Blue eyes shot up to his and he fought a shiver.

"I'm not-well, I guess-" When he stopped and let out a deep breath Sebastian braced himself for whatever was coming.

"I know it's not my place to ask, but would you consider being very discrete with whomever it is you sleep with while we're friends?" Sebastian felt all the air leave his lungs. It wasn't so much the request, but that Kurt still didn't trust him, that hurt.

"I-"

"I know, it was stupid, but please, I just don't think I can handle knowing you're-"

"Kurt, I haven't hooked up in weeks." He cut the paler boy off. Kurt looked shocked for a second before his face smoothed out.

"Why not?" Sebastian let out a bitter laugh.

"Because I've been chasing you!" There was a charged silence between them where Kurt seemed to digest what he'd just admitted to.

"Oh God, I'm just determined to mess this up aren't I?" He
asked with a groan.

"Honey, I think we're both kind of bound to mess up. But make up sex is the best." Sebastian replied with a wink. Kurt burst into laughter.

"You're incorrigible!"

"And you talk like you live in Downton Abbey." He rejoined, pleased that they were back to laughing.

"At least I have a vocabulary." Kurt shot back with a wide grin.

"I have a very extensive vocabulary thank you very much." Sebastian replied indignantly.

"Quoting urban dictionary at me is not a vocabulary, meerkat." Kurt replied dryly. Sebastian had to laugh at that one.

"You know Princess, I think this is the start of a beautiful friendship." There was a comfortable silence while they both grinned and sipped their respective coffees. It was too good to last though.

"So, you want to tell me what prompted your reaction in the Lima Bean?" Kurt asked curiously, taking another sip of his mocha.

"Blaine." Sebastian replied.

"That doesn't explain anything." Kurt responded with an eye roll.

"It kind of explains everything but I'll break it down for you. I didn't like how he was treating you and when I tried to defend you, you gave me this back off look."

"Because I wanted to handle it on my own." Kurt replied, anger seeping into his voice. Sebastian regarded him for a moment, letting his own anger dissipate. He hadn't meant to start a fight, so he needed to tread carefully.

"I wasn't sure how you were handling things. We haven't talked about the break up much, so I didn't know if you were okay talking to him, defending yourself. I was just trying to help." Kurt looked taken aback. Why was it that everyone was so shocked when he said he had emotions?

"Oh, well, I was fine. Blaine and I are…I'm hurt, and ashamed of how naïve I was, but I can handle Blaine Anderson." Kurt looked up, his blue eyes stormy but resolute.

"Yeah, I caught that. I just, I just didn't want him filling your head with more nonsense and guilt. You didn't do anything wrong here, and for him to imply that you did was wrong of him."

"I concede the point. However, unless I ask for help I can fight my own battles." God that kitten glare was too cute for words.

"Sure Princess. From now on I'll let you be your own knight in shining Prada." Sebastian replied, rolling his eyes as Kurt snorted.

"You'd better believe it, meerkat."

AN: Okay, so this is finished. On to the next chapter!
