AN: So, I watched every episode of Fringe in a week and a half. Yeah. I got pretty obsessed. I admit it. Anyway, on the episode when they closed the bride, I got all nervous, because how did we know that they wouldn't keep Lincoln in the blue!verse and take Peter to the red!verse? It stressed me out and I think that Lincoln and Peter would've thought about it as well.. and this happened.
Disclaimer: I'm a poor, poor Floridian. I don't own anything.
You try to smile as you step beside her, the ultimatum of a chosen side bringing an odd feeling of guilt - the people you never said goodbye to, the places you'll never see again, the things you're leaving behind forever - and a sort of complete terror. Some small part of you is waiting for her to turn away, reject you much like her double had. No, perhaps it hadn't been intentional, but it had still stung in a way you hadn't ever expected it to.
It doesn't even occur to you at first that, physical standing aside, though you might have chosen your side figuratively, you may very well have no choice in the matter. As the bridge closes, it might just return you and Peter to the universe in which you technically belong. You look to him and realize you're not the only one thinking about this as you watch as his eyes move to his Olivia, filled with a powerful emotion that you hope to one day have directed at you.
You've never been religious, and you're pretty sure neither has Peter, but you know that as the clock gets closer to zero that you're both praying. You're both begging the universe to cut you both some slack for once, an even trade. You for him, two men born into universes where they simply didn't belong.
The clock hits zero and you hold your breath, hoping that when you open them again, you'll still be by her side. Because Peter was right, home is where the heart is.
Love it? Hate it? Let me know in a review, because those are always, always appreciated.
