Hi everyone, wow...its been a year since I last put up a chapter, I'm so sorry for such a long wait, I did originally start this chapter months ago. I wont go into detail but due to some of the hardest times that I've had to go through, I was unable to write but I'm back and I hope you all enjoy this chapter & that it was worth the wait!

I know the beginning of this chapter may seem very rushed/'jumped in' but like I've said in the past, the point of my story is to not re-type what everyone has already seen, but I had to add in that scene for the story line's sake. So yeah, sorry about that haha but please just go with it, any scenes (plus timeline) I do take from the anime/manga are edited anyway so I hope that makes it a bit more interesting to read.

Also this chapter has a lot of 'time hops' to speed things up and L finally makes an appearance! :)

Chapter 3

2nd January, 2007

L stood amongst the rest of the 'Kira Investigation Team' awaiting a call to come through on Matsuda's phone.

"Mr Matsuda, it's okay for you to turn on your cell phone now, actually, please turn it on right away."

"Err...sure"

As soon as Matsuda's phone switched on, it started to ring. L wasted no time in grabbing the phone by his thumb and finger, bringing to to his ear and changing the sound of his voice to a higher pitch then his normal deeper tone as he answered. Once he'd made an introduction, what he was then told, suddenly sent his alarm bells ringing.

"Raye Penber's fiancée..."

L turned to face Watari.

"Naomi Misora."

Watari nodded as he typed in the name into his laptop, the results came through seconds later and he turned the screen to face L. The young detectives eyes went wide and let out a small gasp.

'So it's her...she's from the Los Angeles BB murder case, that's right. She was working under me...I guess she must have come to Japan with her fiancée.'

L hung up the phone, and before walking away deep in thought, he handed it back to Matsuda who has been joined by Aizawa.

"She died 5 days after her fiancée, I'm sure that anyone in her situation would be pretty depressed. Was it..."

"Suicide?"

L continued to pace, "No...the Naomi Misora I knew was strong...not to mention she was also an excellent FBI agent...if anything, it would be more likely that she'd be trying to catch Kira...it appears she came to Japan with Penber, it's possible that she may have found a lead...Watari, how did she die exactly?"

Watari scrolled down the page on his laptop, "She was found burnt alive in her hotel room last night, the findings would suggest suicide. The door was locked from the inside and the sprinklers broken, her body had been covered in gasoline."

The young detective froze, his eyes widening as he raised his thumb to his parted lips, tracing them in thought.

'Could it be?...no, BB is dead, I identified the body myself...however it is an awfully strange coincidence...if she had found a lead, maybe Kira got to her first.'

It was at this point that L decided to focus the investigation on the people that Ray Penber was tailing, maybe then they would get some answers...even if certain members of the team disapproved.

7th January, 2007

Light sat at his desk, deleting files from his computer while Ryuk and BB lounged about his room.

"I have to make sure that there's no evidence left of this computer, just in case someone goes through it"

The young shinigami let out a chuckle.

"You really no nothing...within the next few days, L will have your house bugged and will be watching every move you make."

Light's eyes went wide.

"What? How?!"

"He would have no doubt heard of Naomi's...unfortunate death and would have traced it back here as you were the person that her fiancée was trailing just before he died, once this house is empty, he will have it bugged. However, me and Ryuk will be able to find the camera's, so as long as you act normal, he will have nothing to pin on you and will back off...for the time being."

Light sat there with a look of annoyance on his face, he turned to BB.

"You said that you know everything about L?"

"That is correct."

"How?"

BB smiled, his eyes seemingly flashing a brighter shade of red.

"Let's just say that we go way back."

17th January, 2007

BB had been right about his theory of L watching Light's every move, camera's and wire taps had been placed in every part of the home, of course this hadn't stop the teenager from using the death note, much to the pleasure of B...although he was unable to eat strawberry jam whenever he felt like it which caused him to be very irritable...but now the camera's were gone.

Today was the day of Light's exam to get into university, and to say that he was confident was an understatement as he sat at his desk ready to begin. BB had once again vanished for a few days, but upon seeing what was about to happen, he soon reappeared sitting next to Light.

Light casually glanced to his right, sending a look to him that clearly showed his confusion to his random arrival. BB mearly cast his eyes behind Light and a slow smirk tugged on his lips, his wings shaking as he giggled.

"What's so amusing now?"

Ryuk hovered near by, looking very bored.

"How long is this going to take? I can't think of anything more uninteresting then watching you do a test"

BB had not once taken his eyes away from whatever was behind Light.

"Now, now Ryuk. I have a feeling that this one is going to be very...insightful."

Light actually felt the urge to shiver at the smile that had appeared on B's face and started to turn his head, he was soon pulled back to reality when the examiner announced the start of the test. Picking up his pen, Light lazily looked over the questions, feeling disappointed as it proved not to be very challenging.

"You there, student number 162, sit properly in your chair."

Hearing BB trying not chuckle, Light slowly turned round to see what was going on...and suddenly felt the air leave his lungs.

Sitting 3 rows behind him, was the student 'not sitting properly' but what shocked him, was not how he was crouched on his chair, holding his pencil loosely between his thumb and finger, but his looks. If Light didn't know any better, he would have said that it was BB sitting there.

"What the hell?!"

Dark, almost black eyes stared back at him. This stranger was almost identical to the ex criminal. Messy black hair, pale skin, loose same styled clothing, even down to his mannerisms.

Light turned back around in his chair, still trying to figure out what was going on.

"Who is this guy?! A relation to BB?"

Beyond let out a low chuckle, causing Light to give him his attention.

"You asked me how I knew him and the answer is simple, to me he was once...a mentor of sorts."

Light's eyes went wide as he tried to keep his composure, he knew that his sentence could only mean one thing. That the man sitting behind him was none other then L himself.

"What the hell is going on?!"

BB just stared at him with an amused smile.

"Well?! Answer me! If that was really L in there, what's your real connection to him? If I hadn't known better, I would have said that was you sat there."

Light had waited until they got to his bedroom before he turned to the 'L' lookalike for answers.

"I've already told you my connection to L."

"No, you gave me a cryptic reply! You said he was your mentor, how? When? You said that you know everything about him, I would then assume then that you know his real name."

"That I do."

Light felt like shaking the older man.

"Then why have you wasted all this time?! You could have just told me and I wouldn't have a problem. I'm trying to create a new world and you're just playing stupid kid games for your own amusement."

BB's eyes narrowed.

"You know, your whining is really starting to aggravate me. You still don't get it do you Light Yagami? I haven't told you because where's the fun in that? Why would I end this so quickly when so much more is yet to come. The fact that L was at that exam means only one thing...he suspects you."

Light felt his eyes widen as he tried to remain calm.

"And now that he suspects you, things are about to get very, very...entertaining. You'll learn all about L in time, have no doubt about that but until then, we do things my way."

"Why should I?" If you don't give me L's real name I'll..."

BB let out a low chuckle.

"You'll what? Kill me? You've already done that and it was the best thing you could ever have done, because unlike you, I actually am a God."

"You're nothing but a dead ex criminal with no real power of his own."

The breath was suddenly taken from Light's lungs as B grabbed him by the throat and slammed him against the wall.

"You know nothing of the power I possess."

The shinigami's eyes flashed dangerously, the red darkening in colour.

"Do not get on my bad side Light Yagami, you have so much potential."

Light's hand went to his throat as the offending hand disappeared, he cast his eyes over to see Ryuk watching the scene with a smirk.

"And what does that mean?"

BB smiled.

"It means that I have big plans for you Light Yagami."

So...there you go. I was actually going to write another scene in this chapter but that seemed like a good place to end it and the scene will fit in well with the next chapter.

Sorry again for such a long wait, you wont be waiting nearly as long as you did for the next one! Thanks for staying with this story.
