Author's note: I do not own anything having to do with Supernatural, only Erela belongs to me.
This is going to be the final part of this story since I had a few requests to get the brother's reactions after finding her. This one will be a little different and will have song lyrics throughout.
Thank you all so much for your support with one of my darker stories :)
Song: Say Something by A Great Big World
Say Something
Say something, I'm giving up on you
I'll be the one, if you want me to
Anywhere I would've followed you
Say something, I'm giving up on you
Dean Winchester stumbled back into the motel room in the early hours of the morning, having waited until the last call to finally leave the smoke filled bar in the no name town. In all reality he probably shouldn't have been behind the wheel but the liquor did little to fill the darkness he had growing inside of him. He wanted to believe that with enough alcohol and a little time everything would work itself out. After all it worked for his father; a man he would always strive to please only to be left in the shadows of his legacy.
He carefully closed the door behind him not wanting to disturb his sister or hear another lecture from his brother. He was the oldest and was tired of being treated like some out of control teenager. The room key was tossed onto the nearby table and he shrugged out of his jacket before falling face first onto the closest bed. Sleep would come easy, it always did when you were trying to escape your reality, but it wouldn't last. In a couple hours he would be awake again and forced to live another day.
And I am feeling so small
It was over my head
I know nothing at all
Dean was just about to close his eyes when his gaze shifted over to the other bed because no matter how much his siblings might annoy or hate him at any particular moment he would always feel the need to protect them until his last dying breath. When he only saw Sam peacefully sleeping in the bed next to his he propped himself up on his elbows and glanced around the room for his sister. The light flooding out from under the bathroom door was his answer and he laid his head back on the pillow.
Dean didn't know how long he had been waiting, the red light that illuminated the clock only intensified his pounding headache, but certainly Erela should have been out of the bathroom by now. With a deep sigh he pushed himself up from the bed and shuffled over to the bathroom where he knocked lightly.
No answer.
And I will stumble and fall
I'm still learning to love
Just starting to crawl
He knocked again this time a little louder but still not too loud so that he wouldn't wake Sam. That was the last thing he needed right now.
Still no answer.
"Ellie?" he called out as he rested his head against the door. He loved his sister but he didn't have the energy to deal with her right now either. When there was no response he started to sober up a bit and forcefully knocked on the door. "El, you alright in there?" His hand immediately went to the knob but when he tried to turn it he found it was locked. "Erela, open the door!"
"What's going on?" Sam asked, his voice full of sleep as he kicked the covers off and climbed out of bed.
Dean continued to bang on the door, "How long has she been in there?"
Sam shrugged and ran a hand through his crazed hair, "She was sitting on your bed when I went to sleep."
"Erela, open the damn door!" Dean demanded, his fist still beating against the door. The aggravation and annoyance had been replaced with worry making him completely sober for the first time in weeks.
"Ellie?!" Sam tried, his own concern growing at an alarming rate.
Dean couldn't take it anymore and after ramming into the door twice with his shoulder the lock finally gave way and he stumbled in the bathroom.
"No," he breathed out at the sight in front of him.
Say something, I'm giving up on you
I'm sorry that I couldn't get to you
Anywhere I would've followed you
Say something, I'm giving up on you
Somewhere deep down Dean knew it was too late but it didn't stop him from rushing into the room and securing towels around both slashed arms. He tried to sit her up, ignoring the amount of blood that filled the tub, and her head lolled to the side.
"Angel," the tears welled up in his eyes as his now bloody hands tried to brush the hair from her face. "Angel," he choked back a sob at how cold her skin had become. "Angel, please, I need you to wake up."
"Dean," Sam whispered as his chest tightened with guilt. He had been in the room with her the whole time. Why hadn't he woken up to check on her? Why had he been so naïve to think things would have gotten better? "Dean," he tried again to get his brother's attention but the eldest Winchester was stuck in his own worst nightmare at the moment.
And I will swallow my pride
You're the one that I love
And I'm saying goodbye
The heat from the fire did little to melt the coldness that had settled over the brothers' hearts as they watched their sister burn on the pyre. Sam said one more silent goodbye before walking away. The guilt would stay with him for years to come; he blamed himself, he blamed his brother, and he blamed this damn life that they had been thrown into.
That was the last time Dean and Sam Winchester ever saw each other.
And above all else, watch over your brother and sister, his father's voice resounded in Dean's head.
Say something, I'm giving up on you
And I'm sorry that I couldn't get to you
And anywhere I would've followed you
Say something, I'm giving up one you
Dean Winchester had never felt so small in all his life. She had put her trust so willingly in his hands because that's what family did. Instead sealing it in a protective bubble, which he should have done, he grasped it too tightly and it shattered. Her trust seeped through his fingers and mixed with the blood that pooled around her cold lifeless body. It would be an image that no amount of alcohol would ever get out of his head.
Say something, I'm giving up on you
This time he had been wrong; he failed- the need of the many didn't outweigh the need of the few.
Winchesters had almost gotten used to saying goodbye to their loved ones but this one was different. This one broke what little family they had left and Dean would forever be wishing he had said something sooner.
Say something…
