Title: When She Came

Chapter 2: Meeting again

Louis wasn't sure why but in the next few weeks after the party he just couldn't seem to forget about Karina. Maybe it was because he saw her words as a challenge of sorts. Questioning his strength to stay with one woman but that would mean that he would have to choose his queen.

He wasn't found of the thought being tied to one woman for the rest of his life but he could still have affairs if he wanted. He was the king, so nothing spoke against it. Louis quickly banned such thought out of his head; he wouldn't sink that low, although it wasn't uncommon but it sometimes destroyed the kingdom.

The king paced back and forth so deep in thought that he did not notice D'Artagnan, the musketeer captain and with that his security captain, enter the room.
"What has been on your mind lately, my King?" he asked, scaring the young man.
"You almost scared me to death!" the royal exclaimed.
"I apologize for that." D'Artagnan said before repeating his question.

"I have been wondering about this Lady." D'Artagnan let out a sigh on the inside, it was always about women he wants to pursue but isn't sure if he should.
"What is wrong with this Lady?" D'Artagnan asked.
"She said something that has me thinking." Now that's something new for D'Artagnan. A woman rarely got Ludwig thinking about something she said.

"D'Artagnan, do you think I am in need of a queen?" The King asked.
"It would not be wrong to start searching, but you have time." He answered.
"Messenger!" Ludwig yelled, making D'Artagnan flinch slightly as a young man rushed into the room.
"What is it, my King?"
"Search for a Karina on the guest list of the last party and tell her that I will be waiting."
With a short bow the messenger ran off to do his job.

"I would like to be left alone to think." Ludwig told D'Artagnan, who then left the King's quarters.

Ludwig was torn out of thought when he heard a knock on his door. He stood up from his bed he had been sitting on and opened the big doors just to meet a pair of beautiful pale blue eyes. When he had said that Karina was beautiful he had not been lying.

"Sire," Karina bowed, "You sent for me."
"Yes, come here." He said and waved her inside his room, shutting the door behind him.
"Your words had me thinking. Karina, do you think I am in need of a queen?"
"I obviously do or I would not have said such things." Karina answered.
"Why would you think that?" Louis asked.
Karina thought about her answer for a few seconds, "You aren't doing anyone any good with all these different women all the time. I think you should settle down a bit so you can worry more about what's going on in France, like the wars."

Louis raised an eyebrow at her, that was obviously not all she wanted to say, but he didn't care.
"Who do you suppose I should marry? Shouldn't I marry a woman I love?" He asked. "Doesn't my happiness count too?"
Karina looked down in shame. He was right in a way, his happiness was also part of all this.
"I apologize." Karina bowed and waited for Louis to wave his hand before straightening up again.

"Karina, you must understand. There is more to love about me then my crown and it isn't easy when many don't understand this. But when I met you, I had the feeling that you would be able to learn to love me for whom I am." The royal smiled in such a charming way Karina couldn't resist smiling back.

"I'm sorry, but let's just be friends for now. I am still not sure I am found of the idea being just another lover." Karina said.
Louis frowned at this. "However you like, my love." He said and led her out of his room. As she left the castle the king slammed the door behind him.

Pacing back and forth in the room he wondered what card he had to play next? He had never had such a hard time getting something he wanted and he really wanted her. She had something he just couldn't explain, and he needed that. He wanted excitement, well his life was a little more exciting with Karina playing hard-to-get, but it wasn't what he was searching for.

All it takes is a little patience and giving destiny a little help.
