Wanda sat comfortably in bed, propped up by pillows, and her book resting on her swollen belly. Her husband reclined next to her, contentedly immersing himself in yet another rerun of Pirates of the Caribbean. It always amused her that he could watch the same movies over and over again and never get tired of them.
The movie went to a commercial break, which Wanda took as her cue to speak. "You know, you really should try reading up a bit, too." She held up her book, titled The Handbook for First-Time Parents (and Parents on Their Second, Third, or More!).
He glanced at her, turning his attention away from the Orville Redenbacher popcorn commercial. "I have. I'm just not spending every spare second reading." He grinned impishly before adding, "I have you to cheat off of."
She couldn't help but smiled back. "I guess I'm just going to be the better parent, then." It was only a joke, but still, a bit more reading on his part couldn't hurt.
"Ach, I'm going to teach the baby how to do somersaults and back-handsprings, and how to swordfight and swashbuckle, and just generally how to get into trouble." He grinned. "I'll be a great parent."
She nudged him playfully, earning a laugh, until they were both lost in laughter. Suddenly, her joviality dropped and her smile fell from her face.
Kurt's own expression quickly mirrored hers, going from jovial and light-hearted to concerned in a split-second. He sat up, his hands going immediately to her belly as if he could feel the problem. "What's wrong?"
Wanda still looked dumbfounded. "Nothing's wrong." She said slowly. "It's just that-" Her speech stopped at the same instance Kurt's tail flicked fully out behind him, an astounded look on his face. The young couple's eyes met, both in awe, before they broke into wide grins, and a second later, laughter.
"It moved!" Wanda rejoiced. "The baby moved!"
Kurt's eyes were bright with mirth. "I felt it! Right here! Hallo, my little one!" He grinned and looked lovingly at his wife. "Our baby is dancing."
"Feels like it." She agreed, shifting a bit. "Maybe it got all riled up when we were laughing."
"Or maybe it just wanted to join in on the love." He leaned to kiss her, then rubbed his three-fingered hand along her belly and kissed it as well. "I love you, little child. We love you. Mami and Papi can't wait to meet you."
Wanda lovingly caressed her own belly, as well as her husband's back. "Papi's right, baby. Mami and Papi love you very much. More than anything in the world."
Kurt looked up at her, golden eyes shining. "What an adventure this will be."
"It's one I'm looking forward to sharing with you." She agreed, leaning in to give him a kiss.
